ELENA'S POV I was dumbstruck. Nothing made sense— my father's words especially. “Sell me? How? Why?” He chuckled. “Of what use are you to me here? You do nothing but eat my food when your mates are already married. You've also refused to get a man to marry you.” “But Dad. How can you do this to me?” I cried, tears trickling down my face. “I can do whatever I want to.” He faced the rogues who wouldn't stop smacking their lips. No doubt they were counting their luck already. “Two Hundred silver coins and she's all yours.” “A hundred and fifty coins is what we can afford. Deal or no deal?” Father nodded his head, agreeing. “You can take her already.” One of them grabbed my arm, handling me without mercy. “Let go of me!! Let me be!!” I screeched, struggling to break free from them. They had such a fierce grip and it was impossible to escape from them. I was desperate, frustrated too. A myriad of thoughts ran through my mind within the next few seconds. . I imagined what those men would do to me the moment they took me away. It was evident in their eyes and even in the way they stared at me. “It was nice doing business with you,” Their leader said to my father. I was carried on the shoulders of one of them despite my kicks and struggles. “Drop me down!!” I bit hard at the one carrying me. He shrieked, throwing me off him. His eyes burned with fury as he stood, ogling at me. “Are you mad?” “No!! Let me go. I don't want to go with you and there's nothing you can do about it.” They laughed, excluding the one I had bitten. “Your father sold you to us already. You'll make a really good plaything for us all.” He s*****d my ass, cupping it in his hand. I gasped in disbelief. “How dare you?” I raised my hand in the air, almost burying it in his face. He caught it mid air and squeezed so hard. I screeched my pain, my voice ringing through the forest. “You're hurting me..” He grinned, eventually letting me off. “That's a warning. If you know what's good for you, then you would keep calm.” I swallowed hard. I still had to nurse my hand and couldn't afford another fight. The journey was long, tiring. I dragged my feet through the forest floors, wondering when we would get to wherever we were headed. For ten hours, we travelled. We would pause for a while to catch our breaths, then continue again. I cried, non-stop. Soon, my head began to bang. Going on that way would only make me fall sick. I wasn't sure I wanted that. I thought of my brother, Kylie. He must be so devastated. Who would take care of him now? Who would get him ready for school? “You're such a fool, Elena.” It was my wolf. That silent b***h who wouldn't act when needed. “Fool? So you can speak now?” I scoffed, hissing. “You're still bothered about your brother when you do not know what fate awaits you.” It laughed. The bastard was mocking me? I gasped, shocked. “We're here already!!” One of them announced. I jolted back to reality, my eyes moving around. I was shocked to the marrow and almost couldn't believe my eyes. What in the world was this place? And to think it's right at the heart of the forest? “Shocked, right?” I swallowed hard. I had promised not to speak to them, and I meant business. “Come!!” My feet moved, a step after the other. I was still in awe and found it hard to believe. There were a lot of men there, about thirty or so. I hadn't noticed any woman amongst them. Fear gripped me as reality dawned on me. Thirty men, and then me? I tried getting the thought out of my head but it just stuck. I began to shiver as I followed behind the tall and hefty man. He had this strange aura, one I couldn't exactly wrap my head around. Eventually, he halted. “Take off your shoes. Remember, you're only to speak when asked to.” I grunted. A man sat on a high chair in the room we walked into. The sight of him sent chills down my spine. I had seen and met scary people, but none could match up to him. “My lord. This is the one we were able to get. One hundred and fifty silvers.” The man whose name I found was Dane, kept mute. His eyes were latched on me. I felt so awkward and uncomfortable. I frowned hard and made a weird noise at him. That did the magic. He smiled, his gaze averting from me. “She's pretty.” He winked. I was flabbergasted. What in the world did I just hear? He said I was pretty? No, surely he didn't. My ears must be acting up. “Indeed, she is. We didn't bargain much as her father was willing to sell her off.” Dane got up, advancing towards me. I withdrew, step after step. My hands tightened into fists, ready to hit him if he dared touch me. “What's your name?” He ran his hands through my face, still smiling. “Get your hands off me!!” My eyes widened, fierce. I pushed him off, fuming hard. “You must be going crazy.” The other raised his hand and was going to hit me. “Let her be.” He snapped, upset. “What's your name?” “Elena!!” “Elena. You've got such a pretty name as well as a pretty face. You're fierce and daunting too.” I chuckled, not knowing what to make of his compliment. “Thank you,” I muttered eventually. “Initially, the plan was to have you satisfy the men here, but seeing you now, I have changed my mind.” “So you wanted me to become a w***e, but now you've changed your mind. Awn. That's so thoughtful of you.” I was sarcastic, and Dane knew this. “What do you think we are, first of all?” I frowned. “What are you? Rogues!! Hungry starving rogues.” He laughed, so hard that I was irritated by it. My lips pressed together as I waited for him to snap back to reality. “Rogues? That's what we make you believe, but that's not who or what we are.” “If you're not rogues, then what are you all?” I was curious. “We are assassins and you shall be joining us. Your training starts now.” Next, he pulled out a whip. Before I could speak, he landed it on my back — twice. I screeched in pain, jumping all over. This was my reality now. Worse!!
