ELENA'S POV
SIX MONTHS LATER..
How quickly time flies. In a few months, I had been broken by these rogues who were assassins in disguise.
I no longer was the soft and tender Elena everyone knew before. I was tough, fierce— dangerous too.
For six months, I had trained vigorously, ready for the day I would be called into the inner chambers where my first assignment would be assigned to me.
Deep down, I looked forward to that moment. Nothing else mattered to me.
I sat under the moonlight one day, fiddling with my hands. It was a full moon, shining beautifully across the earth.
“Elena!!” It was sharp, fierce.
I turned, and then stood Mark, one of the men there at the rogues pack.
“Yes!!” I responded, my voice a thick baritone.
“The leader summons you.”
I dashed to my feet, taking a long drag of air. What did he need me for this time?
I sauntered quickly until I was inside the house. There was no sign of him where he usually was whenever he summoned us.
“Come in this way.” I traced the voice, moving slowly. I was anxious, uneasy. Could he be summoning me into the inner chambers already?
I was excited… thrilled.
I turned the doorknob under my weight and stepped right in. He sat still, his gaze on me. I swallowed hard, eyes flickering.
“You sent for me, sir.”
“Yes I did. The time is now.”
I smiled, joy sizzling freely through me. Goodness knows how long I had waited for this day.
“Yes sir. Give the instruction and consider it done already.” I was confident in my self and my abilities.
There was silence between us for a moment. A strong gust of wind blew right then, leaving the fire struggling for its life.
It withstood it though, standing firm.
“Your first mission is to eliminate Alpha Kade of the blood moon pack.”
“Noted sir..”
“This should be completed latest by sunset tomorrow. You should set out at once so you're at the blood moon pack by morning.”
“Yes sir. I'll be back soon. Would you like to have his head?”
“With pleasure.” He grinned.
I bowed, stepping quickly out of the room.
Over and over, I had heard the Name, Alpha Kade. He seemed to be a popular and powerful alpha. Who could want him dead?
I quickly got the thought out of my head. It wasn't my business anyways. All I had to do was get rid of him.
“I see you're setting out already!” One of my pals walked up to me as I packed my stuffs — A wolfsbane, a small dagger and a silent revolver.
“That's right. I should be back by morning if all goes well.”
He grinned. “This is a really big one, you know. Alpha Kade is no easy meat, so you've got to be extremely careful.”
I nodded, “I know. Don't you worry, I've got this.”
He smiled, patting me on the shoulder. “Go, and return soon.”
“Thank you.”
I grabbed my stuffs and moved quickly out of the pack. I didn't look back — not even once. .
“Get rid of Alpha Kade! Eliminate him.” The words replayed in my head for the umpeenth time.
That's exactly what I was going to do. A malicious grin etched quickly on my face.
I travelled through the forest, moving as quickly as my strength could carry me. The night was cold, leaving my skin tingling.
I didn't halt, not even for a second. I had to be at the blood moon pack before dawn.
It was only five hours journey. That I was told.
Finally, blood moon pack was in view. My jaws dropped at the sight before me. Gorgeous was an understatement.
“Am I at the right place?” I asked myself in doubt. It was so beautiful, and modern. Little wonder Alpha Kade was so popular.
The works he had done here in his pack — None had achieved it.
“Work starts now,” I said to myself, quickly changing into the rags I had brought with me.
I walked, slowly.. halting only when I was sure I was in the palace.
“Who are you? What do you want?” The men at the gate snapped. They looked fierce, daunting too.
“I'm Sarah..”
“Sarah!! What do you want? You shouldn't be here. Go away at once.”
I fell on my feet, grabbing one of them by his feet. “Please help me. I have no where else to go. I'm going to starve to death.”
I began to sob, tears rolling down my face in large torrents.
“So what would you have us do? Feed you?” They all laughed. Those good for nothing dogs.
“I can work as maid. I can clean, cook, wash.. anything. Please just don't send me away.”
They stared at each other for a few minutes, contemplating. A woman walked up to us right then.
“What's going on here? Who's she?” She stared at me with disdain in her eyes.
“My name is Sarah!!” My voice shook with fear. “I desperately need work. I can do anything you want me to do ma'am.”
Her lips remained pressed for a few seconds. “Come with me!!” I heaved a sigh of relief, moving right behind her.
Step after step, we went until the maids quarter was in view. She halted and so did I. “This is where you shall stay, with other maids.”
“Thank you ma'am. This is so kind of you.”
She snorted, ignoring me for a few seconds.
My eyes darted around carefully. The house was unusually quiet and there didn't seem to be any signs of Alpha Kade.
“This is where you're going to work.” We halted. It was the kitchen. Well kept and tidy. I stood in awe, its beauty appealing to me.
“You're to clean and scrub daily. Make sure it's sparkling at every time.”
I nodded, pleased.
“Good! Now, I need you to bring a cup of coffee to the Alpha in his study. Make sure it's hot and not too sweet.”
“Right away ma'am.” I reached for the mug, quickly mixing some water and coffee into it.
“Be swift with it. He doesn't like to be kept waiting.” She walked off, leaving me all alone. I smiled. The perfect opportunity had just shown itself.
I took out the wolfsbane, pouring some of it into the coffee. A little stir and it was perfect.
All I needed was the Alpha to take a sip and he would be dead before he realizes it. I grinned to myself, carrying the tray in my hand.
I moved swiftly as if I had been there all my life. My heart pounded against my chest, not from fear, but anxiety.
Nothing I wanted more in the world than to be done with this task before me.
I knocked on the door as I stood before the study. “Come in!” The voice resounded from inside. Thick and baritone. I hadn't heard anything like it, ever.
I turned the doorknob and went right in. The figure sat, facing the wall.
“Your Grace. I'm here with the cup of coffee.”
“Good!!” He rose to his feet, and only then did I see his face.
A strange feeling came over it. It was strong, totally uncontrollable. He seemed to feel the same way as well.
This feeling — I recognized it very well. Three occasions I had felt that same way, only to be denied.
My nose flared and immediately, the word jumped out of my mouth, “Mate.”
“Mate!!” Alpha Kade cried as well.
We stood, glaring at each other. My chest rose and fell, heavily.
I was flabbergasted. In a total dilemma. How was this possible? The man I was to murder was my mate?
“What's your name?” He asked, his eyes filled with affection.
I kept mute. How could I respond? On one hand was my mission
to eliminate him, and on the other was my newly discovered bond with him.
“What shall you do, Elena?” My wolf asked, sarcastically. The bastard stirred, excited.
