Nakia wormed her way back to the staircase down before she stood up and ran. Where were her father – her mother – Haq? She flew down the staircase and followed the roads. When she saw a patrol, she ran into the alley, opened a rift and slid in, popping into the park.
“Haq!” She cried. She opened another rift and popped into the grocery store they went to, now barren of its goods and the lights falling from the ceiling, dust all around.
Nakia ran down the block and saw the children standing by the river. She sprinted over to them and saw Haq with them. His mouth was covered, so were the other children’s.
