"This is the best counterattack," Adrian whispered into Caroline' ear, his voice deliberately low. Although Dominic couldn't make out the exact words, he clearly saw the smile that played at Caroline's lips and her polite expression as she thanked Adrian. As he watched Adrian escort Caroline deeper into the estate with a protective air, Faye standing beside Dominic, made what seemed like an "offhand" remark.
"So they really are together now," she sighed. "That was quick, wasn't it? Though I suppose I can feel relieved for Caroline now."
