Chapter 27: Don't Cry
(Dominic's POV)
If I hadn't pushed her, she probably wouldn't have looked at me again. But now, the dam had broken. Caroline looked up at me, those hazel eyes swimming with tears.
The anger in the room vanished. It washed away with her tears.
I stared at her wet face. My heart felt like a giant hand was crushing it. The rage was gone. I never thought bringing Faye home would break her like this.
She was always the perfect Lowells daughter. Always smiling. Always saying, "It's fine, Dominic."
Now she was sobbing like a child.
Panic hit me like a bucket of ice water. I loosened my grip on the wall. My hand trembled as I reached out. I wanted to wipe that tear off her cheek. My voice sounded wrecked, strange to my own ears.
