Chapter 30: Unexpected Presence
(Author's POV)
The woman's scream cut through the lobby like a blade.
Even the reporters who had packed the entrance in a solid wall instinctively stepped back, opening a path for her. She was charging forward, clutching her son against her chest, eyes wild and fixed on Caroline.
Sebastian moved first. He stepped sideways and planted himself in front of Caroline, arms slightly out, ready to take the impact.
Caroline felt the woman's fury like heat radiating across the room. She saw the madness in those eyes. But she also saw the cameras - dozens of them, all rolling, all watching. She knew the rule. Standing behind a man while flashbulbs popped would look like guilt. It would look like retreat.
She touched Sebastian's arm lightly.
