I pulled a chair out for her to sit in. She actually sat down. I had not been sure she would. I had pulled out the chair and left it there like an invitation and said nothing and for one long second she had stood at the counter with her coffee and her bunny shorts and her spectacular hair and I had genuinely not known which way it would go. Then she sat down. And something in my chest settled in a way it hadn't in days.
