~ ROWAN’S POV ~
The weeks had bled into a blur of sterile silence and repeated, failed attempts. Every time my cycle arrived, the tension in the mansion went up until the air felt thick enough to choke on. I could feel Julian’s frustration like a vibrating through the walls of the mansion. It was impatient and increasingly dangerous.
I was sitting in the small sunroom, staring out at the perfectly manicured lawns of the Crescent Moon estate, when the door crashed open. I didn’t even have to turn around. The scent of pine and expensive cologne entered the room before him.
"Rowan. My office. Now," Julian barked.
I didn't move. I kept my gaze fixed on a bird perched on the garden fence. "I'm busy, Julian."
Before I could blink, he was across the room. His hand wrapped around my upper arm, his grip was like iron. He hauled me to my feet with a grunt of effort.
"I wasn't asking," he hissed, his grey eyes flashed with a predatory look.
He dragged me through the hallways. My heels clicked rapidly against the marble as I struggled to keep up with his long, angry strides. Staff members ducked into doorways, avoiding the Alpha’s path. Julian didn't care. He continued dragging me along with him.
He threw open the heavy oak doors to his office and shoved me inside. I stumbled, catching myself on the edge of his mahogany desk. The door slammed shut behind us and the lock clicked.
"Explain this," he demanded, throwing a stack of medical reports on the desk.
I didn't look at them. "I'm sure the pack doctor already told you. I'm not pregnant. Again."
Julian let out a low growl, a sound that started deep in his chest. He kicked a chair out of his way and paced the length of the room like a caged beast. "It has been weeks, Rowan. Marcus and I have been more than thorough. The timing was perfect. Your health is perfect. So why the f**k is my heir not growing inside you?"
I crossed my arms, my hazel eyes narrowing. "Maybe the universe is trying to tell you something, Julian. Maybe I’m not as 'compatible' as your research suggested."
He stopped pacing and leaned over the desk, his face inches from mine. His breath was hot against my skin. "Don't f*****g play games with me. I didn't save you from getting beheaded so you could waste my time. You have one job. One purpose in this house."
"I am a person, Julian! Not a f*****g project!" I yelled, my voice cracking the heavy atmosphere of the room. "You treat me like a piece of art you bought at an auction. You drag me in here to vent because you're losing control, but you don't even see me!"
"I see exactly what you are," he countered, his voice dropping to a dangerous, silky whisper. "You are a Moon-bound wolf who belongs to me and my brother. You are the key to our future, and right now, you are failing."
"Failing?" I laughed bitterly. "I didn't ask for this! I didn't ask for my sister to betray me or for you to claim me. I was framed for treason I didn't commit, and instead of justice, I got a golden cage and a job description that involves being a human incubator!"
Julian’s hand slammed onto the desk, loud as a gunshot. "You were a traitor, Rowan. By the laws of the land, you should be dead. Marcus and I were there to execute you, do not forget that."
"I told you, I didn't do it!" I screamed back, stepping closer to him. "I never plotted against my pack. My sister lied! And you... you didn't save me because you're a hero. You saved me because you're greedy. You want a weapon, not a child."
"Watch your tone," he warned, his pupils dilating until his eyes were almost entirely black.
"Or what? You'll kill me?" I challenged, my heart hammering against my ribs. "Go ahead. Kill the 'breeder.' See how much power that gets you. I am sick of being poked and used. I am not a baby machine, Julian! I am Rowan Brooks, and if I’m not pregnant, maybe it’s because my wolf doesn't want anything to do with a man who thinks he can force life into existence!"
The silence that followed was deafening. Julian stood perfectly still, his chest heaving.
Then he suddenly moved.
He didn't grab my arm this time. Instead he lunged forward, catching me around the waist and throwing me over his shoulder like a sack of rice.
"Put me down!" I thrashed, my fists drumming violently against his broad back. "Julian, stop it for f***s sake!"
"You want to talk about your job?" he growled, heading for the private door that connected his office to his bedroom suite. "Let’s get back to work then."
He kicked the bedroom door open and tossed me on the massive, silk-covered bed. I tried to scramble away, but he was faster. He pinned my wrists above my head with one hand, his body weight crushing me into the mattress.
"You think you can scream at me in my own house?" he asked, "You think you can tell me 'no'? You think you have that freedom?"
"I’m telling you the truth," I panted, looking up at him. "You’re acting like a monster."
"I've always been a monster, Rowan," he whispered.
He didn't wait for a response. He crashed his lips against mine. Julian was raw, impulsive, and rough. He bit my lower lip until I tasted copper, his tongue invaded my mouth with a dominance that left me lightheaded.
I struggled beneath him, my mind screaming that I should hate this, but my body was already betraying me. His scent, that pine and expensive cologne, it was so powerful that it flooded my senses.
He let go of my wrists only to rip my silk blouse down, from the middle. The buttons flew off, hitting the floor with tiny thuds. I gasped as the cool air hit my skin, followed immediately by the scorching heat of his palms.
"You're mine, Rowan," he muttered against my throat, his teeth grazing the sensitive skin right above my collarbone. "Every inch of you. You are mine to breed, you are mine to f**k, you're mine to f*****g own."
"You are a disgusting monster, I hate you." I whispered, even as my fingers found their way into his thick brown hair, pulling him closer.
"Good," he said, pulling back to look at me. His grey eyes were stormy, filled with a dark look of desperation. "Hate me. It doesn't change what’s going to happen."
He stripped out of his clothes with jerky, impatient movements. When he moved back over me, he didn't use finesse, he wasn't gentle. He grabbed my hips, his fingers digging into my flesh, and forced my legs apart.
"Julian, wait–"
He didn't wait. He drove into me in one hard, violent thrust.
I cried out, my back arching off the bed. It was too much, too fast. His c**k was huge, filling me completely, stretching me until I thought I would break. He didn't stop to let me adjust. He began a relentless, driving pace that knocked the breath from my lungs.
"Look at me," he commanded, his voice was a low vibration that I felt in my bones.
I opened my eyes, my vision was blurry with tears and something else. He was staring down at me, his expression was a mask of pure, unadulterated possession.
"Say it," he panted, his thrusts becoming faster, more violent. "Say who you belong to."
"No," I gasped, my nails digging into his shoulders, drawing blood.
He growled and reached down, his fingers finding my c**t and started rubbing me roughly, even while still f*****g me hard. I felt a mix of pain and pleasure. The combination was explosive. It was mind blowing, I thought I would lose my mind with everything I was feeling.
"f**k, Julian!" A loud moan escaped my mouth as Julian pounded into me relentlessly.
He flipped me over suddenly, shoving my face into the pillows and pulling my hips up. The shift in position made me feel even more vulnerable, even more like prey. He entered me again from behind, his chest pressing against my back, his sweat slicking our skin together.
"You are going to carry my child," he hissed in my ear, his hand wrapping around my neck, slightly choking me. "You are going to give me everything I want."
His thrusts became frantic. As his hips thrusted into mine, I could feel the shocks of electricity through my whole body. I hated that I was moaning so loudly and even thrusting back into me, I hated that I was peaking, I hated that the ecstasy was driving me toward a cliff I couldn't help but fall over.
"Julian!" I screamed into the pillow as the first wave of my orgasm hit.
It was a violent, shaking release that left me sobbing. He didn't slow down. He increased the speed, his grunts of effort sounding more and more like the wolf beneath the skin. He was chasing his own release with a desperation that bordered on madness.
He gripped my waist so hard I knew there would be bruises in the shape of his fingers by morning. With a final, guttural roar, he emptied himself into me. He held himself there, pinning me to the bed, his body twitching with the force of his climax.
The silence that followed was heavy with the scent of s*x and unspoken resentment. Julian didn't move for a long time. He stayed buried inside me, his breath hot against the back of my neck.
I lay there, my face pressed into the silk, my body trembling. The rebellion I had felt in the office was gone, replaced by a cold, hollow ache. He had asserted his dominance. He had taken what he wanted.
Slowly, he pulled away and sat up. He didn't look at me as he reached for his trousers.
"Get cleaned up," he said, his voice was cold and back to its professional, Alpha tone. "We'll try again tomorrow."
The door clicked shut behind him, leaving me alone in the wreckage of the bed. I curled into a ball, the hazel of my eyes dimming as I stared at the wall. He thought he had won. He thought this was how he would get his heir.
But as I felt the cooling sensation of his seed inside me, a single thought echoed in my mind.
He could claim my body. He could even claim my wolf. But I would never, ever give him my soul.
