Chapter 6: His Unsual Eyes

1646 Words
NYLAH’S POV I remained in his embrace, perplexed by Alpha Deiph’s enigmatic behavior, as he rose from his seat, his towering figure looming over me, “Nylah, you need to rest,” he declared, his voice firm yet laced with a hint of concern, “Your exhaustion is palpable,” I nodded mutely, still grappling with the intricacies of his emotions. Why did he seem so perturbed by my declaration? What did he stand to gain from my well-being? Alpha Deiph’s gaze lingered on me, and I sensed a flicker of intensity before he turned to leave, “I will take my leave now,” he said, his voice dripping with an air of mystery, “But know this, Nylah; I will not abandon you to the whims of fate. You are under my protection now,” With that, he exited my room, leaving me to ponder the weight of his words. What did he mean by ‘protection’? And why did I sense a hint of reluctance in his tone? I lay in bed, my mind racing with questions, but my body succumbed to exhaustion, and I drifted off to sleep, the vial of liquid Alpha Deiph had given me still clutched in my hand. --- I ventured into the Pack house, aware that my status as Alpha Deiph’s slave was well-known, rendering my presence ostensibly unremarkable. However, my intention to enter the kitchen was abruptly diverted upon hearing Alpha Deiph’s voice, beckoning me to witness a scene that would forever be etched in my memory. “Unveiling the depths of depravity,” seemed to be the unspoken phrase that echoed through the passageway as I walked deeper, my curiosity morphing into horror. Alpha Deiph’s voice grew louder, his words a cold, calculated command, “s*******r him mercilessly, without reprieve,” A gasp escaped my lips, my palm instinctively flying to my mouth as if to stifle the shock, “Why do you linger, Nylah?” the cold voice behind me sent shivers coursing through my legs, my heart racing with trepidation, “Have you lost the ability to speak, or do you merely prefer to ‘observe’ in silence?” I turned to face Alpha Deiph, my head shook ever so slightly, a silent plea for understanding. “I’m sorry, Alpha—,” I began, my voice barely above a whisper. But he wouldn't have it, “Save it!” he thundered, his voice like a c***k of lightning, “Get lost!” he bellowed, his words a harsh dismissal. I didn't need to be told twice. I spun on my heel and made a hasty retreat, my heart racing with every step. The sound of my own footsteps echoed in my ears as I hastened my pace, desperate to escape the toxic atmosphere that seemed to cling to Alpha Deiph like a shroud. ___ I traversed the corridor, my strides purposeful, but I inadvertently collided with Joanna, her presence causing a sudden obstacle in my path, “Ah, greetings!” I exclaimed, attempting to mask my distress with a veneer of cordiality. However, Joanna’s perceptive gaze pierced through my facade, her eyes narrowing as she scrutinized my countenance, “Your aura screams discomfort,” she seemed to imply, her voice laced with concern. “Let us proceed to my room forthwith,” she declared, her grasp gentle yet firm as she guided me along. __ Once settled, Joanna’s gaze locked onto mine with an unwavering intensity, “Does your sudden shift in demeanor have anything to do with my brother?” she asked, her voice low and measured, the words dripping with a hint of protectiveness. I hesitated, unsure how much to reveal, but Joanna’s gentle yet firm tone put me at ease, “Perhaps,” I conceded, my voice barely above a whisper, ‘Alpha Deiph’s words were— unsettling, to say the least,” Joanna’s expression turned thoughtful, her brow furrowed in concern, “I see,” she said, her pause deliberate, “My brother can be— prickly, at times. But tell me, Nylah, what exactly did he say to upset you so?” I looked at Joanna, my eyes searching for answers. “Can you tell me why he’s always been so cold towards me?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. Joanna’s expression faltered, her eyes darting away from mine. She seemed to be struggling with her words, her silence deafening. “Joanna, please,” I pressed on, my tone gentle but firm, “I need to understand why he treats me like this,” Joanna’s gaze fluttered back to mine, her eyes flashing with a hint of warning, “Nylah, let’s not dwell on this right now,” she said, her voice laced with a subtle evasiveness, “Tell me, how was your day otherwise? Have you eaten?” I sensed a deliberate deflection, Joanna's attempt to steer the conversation away from Alpha Deiph’s behavior. But I wasn't ready to let it go yet. “Joanna, please,” I persisted, my curiosity getting the better of me, “I need to know,” Joanna’s expression turned guarded, her lips pressing into a thin line, “I— can't, Nylah,” she said finally, her voice barely above a whisper, “At least, not yet,” I nodded, understanding her reluctance. =--___= I stumbles upon Alpha Deiph in a secluded clearing. He’s sitting on a rock, his eyes closed, and his face tilted upwards, soaking in the sunlight. For a moment, I forgets to breathe, struck by the peacefulness of the scene. “Join me,” he says, his voice low and gentle, without opening his eyes. I hesitates, unsure if I should intrude on this private moment. But something about his tone puts me at ease, and I sits beside him, leaving a respectful distance between us. We sit in comfortable silence for a while, the only sound being the rustling of leaves and the distant call of a bird. I feels a sense of calm wash over me, as if the tension between them has temporarily dissipated. Alpha Deiph opens his eyes, and our gazes meet in a moment of electric connection. I feels a jolt of awareness, as if the air around them has charged with an otherworldly energy. “The sun is warm today,” Alpha Deiph says, his voice low and gentle, breaking the silence. I nods, my voice barely above a whisper, “Yes, it is,” Alpha Deiph turns to face me, his eyes narrowing slightly as he studies me, “You’re not like the others, Nylah,” he says, his tone curious, “You have a quiet strength, a resilience that’s intriguing,” My heart skips a beat as I meets his gaze, “And you’re not like the other Alphas I’ve met,” I replied, my voice steady, “You have a— complexity that's hard to read,” Alpha Deiph’s expression softens, and for a moment, I glimpses a glimmer of vulnerability behind his eyes, “Perhaps we’re both more than meets the eye,” he says, his voice dripping with subtle intensity. Suddenly, a rustling in the bushes nearby catches our attention. We turn to see a young girl, no more than ten years old, emerging from the underbrush. She’s dirty, disheveled, and looks like she’s been crying. “Alpha Deiph!” she exclaims, rushing towards him with a look of relief, “I was so scared! I got lost in the woods, and I couldn't find my way back to the Pack!” Alpha Deiph’s expression softens, and he opens his arms, allowing the girl to embrace him, “You’re safe now, little one,” he says, his voice gentle, “What’s your name?” “I-I’m Elara,” the girl stammers, still sniffling. I watches the scene unfold, sensing a sudden shift in Alpha Deiph’s demeanor. He seems— softer, more gentle, as he interacts with the young girl. “Elara, this is Nylah,” Alpha Deiph says, gesturing towards me, “She’s a member of our Pack,” Elara’s eyes widen as she looks at me, and for a moment, I sees a flash of fear in her eyes. But then, something unexpected happens. Elara rushes towards me, embracing me tightly, “Thank you!” she exclaims, her small voice filled with gratitude, “Thank you for helping Alpha Deiph!” I was taken aback, unsure how to respond. I looked at Alpha Deiph, who seems equally surprised, “Elara, what are you talking about?” Alpha Deiph asks, his voice gentle. “You saved him!” Elara exclaims, her eyes shining with tears, “You saved Alpha Deiph from the darkness!” My mind races with questions. What darkness is Elara talking about? And how did I, supposedly save Alpha Deiph from it? Alpha Deiph’s expression turns serious, his eyes narrowing slightly, “Elara, what are you saying?” he asks, his voice firm but gentle. Elara’s gaze darts between us, her eyes wide with fear, “I saw it, Alpha Deiph! I saw the darkness trying to consume you! But, she pushed it away!” My confusion deepens. What is Elara talking about? I doesn't remember ever interacting with Alpha Deiph in such a way. Alpha Deiph’s expression softens, and he kneels down beside Elara, “Shh, little one,” he says, his voice soothing, “You’re safe now. Nylah is a member of our Pack, and she would never harm me,” Elara nods, her eyes still wide with fear, “I know, Alpha Deiph. But I saw it! I saw the darkness trying to take you!” Suddenly, Alpha Deiph’s eyes lock onto mine, and I senses a jolt of electricity run through my body. It’s as if he’s trying to communicate something to me, something important.
