NYLAH'S POV
I expected him to be angry, but nothing occurred. How could he, a vicious being, ask for my name?
"Oh. Take care of yourself; I'll return in the following 4 hours. Don't undertake any sort of domestic work,” Alpha Deiph responds, more in whispers. What is he doing that might require so much of his time? Isn't he an Alpha who must be present in the pack all day?
All I could do was nod. I think this unusual; he left a few minutes later.
…
I strolled carefully to the kitchen; it didn't take long until I worked out how to get there. The Pack was significantly larger than Star Pack. Just glancing at the edifice makes me think of my deceased brother.
“Good morning, ma'am. Do you need anything? Your meal will be served within the next five minutes,” the lady I saw a few hours earlier spoke nicely,"My breakfast? You must be mistaken; I am Alpha Deiph's slave,” I corrected, and the joy on her face faded, "Ma'am, Alpha Deiph instructed me to prepare your breakfast, and everything else you require should be there at your doorstep.
If not, I wouldn't be in his kitchen right now,” the lady exclaimed, "Is this kitchen only for Alpha Deiph?"
"Yes. Before he departed for work, he explained everything I needed to accomplish. You don't have walk here to fetch things. You're also barefoot," she continued, glancing down my legs. That was never an issue for me; I stopped wearing shoes when I was seven years old, and I've always dressed that way. Because I'm Alpha Deiph's slave, I have to assist her.
I moved passed her and turned on the gas cooker. I was attempting to prepare my father's favorite; perhaps Alpha Deiph would also enjoy it, as I imagined all Alphas did.
"You know how to prepare cheese?" the lady inquired, "That's the most simple food I could prepare," I replied, “But you don't have to do it. The Alpha would be furious with me if he saw you here," she moaned, “As far as I recall, he stated he'd be back in 4 hours; don't worry. We're both slaves; we should be doing what pleases the Alpha," I told her truthfully, and she moaned in concern.
But she let me continue, despite the fact that her mind was racing.
…
"Holy s**t, Mia! You should not have eaten those popcorns behind me; you cheated!" I mourned, glancing at the bowl of popcorn she had devoured in the blink of an eye, "Competition! Do not forget that word, ma'am. I won; eventually, I took the lead,” Mia shouted uncontrollably and began running, popcorns in her mouth.
I desperately wanted those popcorns, so I began chasing after her, oblivious to the fact that we were on the grassy floor. Neither of us was prepared to succumb to each other. I kept chasing her till I crashed on someone's body.
It was so fascinating and welcoming that I couldn't keep my cool for several minutes. Until I heard a chilly, authoritative voice ask me, "What are you doing here?"
When I realized whose tone it was, I sprang up from the embrace and stood properly on my feet, “Punish me, Alpha Deiph. I was out of my mind for falling on you," I admitted. But I noticed Mia clutching my wrist tightly, indicating her anxiety and concern; Alpha Deiph's gaze was focused on her rather than mine.
"Mia, could you tell me the reason why she's in this dirty place?" Alpha Deiph asked. Did he just term this gorgeous place 'filthy place?' This location cannot reasonably be classified as such, "I am sorry, Alpha Deiph. She insisted on having fun,” Mia scampered behind me, clutching my hand tightly as her sole hope of rescue.
"Is that the kind of enjoyment you might imagine? Her chasing you like a rat!" Alpha Deiph laments, and I couldn't understand why he was so upset because I was playing with my new found friend.
"I demanded it, Alpha Deiph. If you had to punish someone, I should be the one. Surely you have to punish me rather than her," I argued, his stare widening, "Follow me," he tells me, and I swiftly walk behind him, promising Mia that everything would be fine.
…
I was surprised to be back in my room rather than a prison or somewhere worse than Star Pack's criminals' quarters, "Sit," he said, but I remained in my position. I decided to plead again, "Alpha Deiph, please don't punish her, I'm the victim here,”
He peered at me with the corner of his eyes and said, "If you deserve a penalty, I would be the one to say so. The only reason I'm allowing you to sit is that you're bleeding on both legs," he said coldly.
I had been attempting to hide it from him, and I was confident he would never notice. I am quite good at masking my pain, but how does he do it?
"Sit down, I need to treat your wounds so it won't get inflicted,” my eyes widened, and I lifted my brow at him, skeptically, "There's no need for that, Alpha Deiph. I'm alright; it'll recover after a few days" I declined, making him even more angry.
"If you believe I should not take care of my property, be prepared to face my wrath," he remarked coldly, sitting on the chair, "Tell me, for how long have you been hiding your pain?" Alpha Deiph asked, "It has nothing to do with what happened, I was just being careless," I said with a sigh.
"I truly want to know. What else are you hiding from me?" he continued, betrayed, "Since I was seven, on the first day I turned seven. I had to hide it to avoid receiving another penalty,”
"Do you mean you've never had free speech since you were seven? Is this for the same reason?”
"Yes, but I am used to it. I realized I had to do what I was told. I was only doing my job; I am forever indebted to Star Pack, "However, you were not supposed to be penalized severely for something that was not your fault. And the wolf you say aided you back then, what's—?"
"I apologize," I mumbled, "For what?"
“I lied to you, Alpha Deiph. The wolf was actually my brother, the future Alpha of the Star Pack. Unfortunately, he died while saving me. He was the one person who actually loved me, even when everyone else turned their backs on me.
I was the Alpha daughter of the Star Pack. Unfortunately, I was unable to shift on my seventh birthday and remain so to this day. My parents, friends, and family all consider me as a misfortune. They all abused me; perhaps I am genuinely a tragedy. I shattered everyone's lives; those who attempted to get close to me eventually died.
I'm a sorry flower; I damaged plants. Just like I killed my brother, just like I killed the only friend I had while I was nine. And now the one friend with whom I was attempting to communicate may be killed as a result of my actions. I'm not sure how my life would be if I ever lost that friend,” I declared, painfully.
Silence falls between us; Alpha Deiph was mute, staring at me; I can feel his entire stare on me. My Father used to say, ‘Nylah, whenever I'm talking to you, never you sit close to me. You are to sit on the floor or remain motionless, because that is your place’
My father's words lingered in my thoughts, "You don't have to, sit,” Alpha Deiph's voice returned me to reality. I couldn't refuse; his furious gaze on me isn't nice. He placed my legs on his laps and glanced at the bruises with an unidentified expression and said, "It'll be painful at first, but try to endure,” I nodded and chewed my bottom lip frantically.
The moment his fingers touched my foot, an unfamiliar thrill surged through me. My body reacted negatively to his touch, and in the midst of it, anguish flooded me, and I shouted in torrents, "Argghhh—-" I murmured and bit my lip cruelly. He gave me a glance but proceeded. Throughout the brief moment, I was wincing in pain.
"All done," Alpha Deiph informed me, and I was already crying. Finally, it's over, "Thank you, Alpha Deiph. I'd definitely be able to walk now," I responded, springing to my feet. I patrolled the room foolishly, but my legs stumbled, I gradually lost equilibrium, and I collapsed to the floor, believing I had lost hope. Something caught me off guard.
Alpha Deiph pinned me against the wall, and I couldn't help but admire his masculinity; he's so attractive. His dark green eyes were riveted on me, and we stared at each other for minutes.
When I noticed our bodies engaging hungrily with each other, my heart raced, anticipating the unattainable, "I apologize, Alpha Deiph," I said.
"For what again? Don't you feel the mate bond?" he questioned, surprised, "Mate bond? What does that mean?" I inquired, puzzled, "Tell me, why are you wolfless?"
"I simply don't know, but I know it's likely because I'm unfortun—" Alpha Deiph pressed his index finger over my lip, making me quiet, "You don't have to be sad, wolfless or not. I will soon show your innocence, even if it means traveling throughout the world to locate you tangible truth,”
"Alpha Deiph, why do you still believe of me as innocent after everything I've done? I'm a murderer, and my hands are not clean. The moon goddess knew this, and I suppose that is why everyone who attempted to cross into my world was lost or damaged," I said, tears welling up in the corners of my eyes.
"Because I didn't believe in reality, I assumed everything happened for a reason. However, I feel you did not kill your brother, and it does not apply to others. Just give me a chance to prove that I am worthy of being your warrior and fighting this battle with you,”
"No one, except my big brother, has ever wanted me without a reason, and I don't want to slip into another nightmare. Alpha Deiph, I apologize; your slave will never be who you want her to be. She'd given up hope a long time ago,”
"Trust me like you do to him, believe in me like he had always do and I'll start from your family by proving you're worth the good things, slave" he murmurs in my ear.
