Chapter 4

“Ms Agreste, please tell me the video I saw is fabricated” Headmaster Agreste said the moment Kayla walked in his office, “the video you saw was fabricated” Kayla said and sat opposite him. “this is not a joke Kayla, what if that stunt had complications?” the headmaster asked, “it didn’t, now can we please move on. I hate living in the past” Kayla said, “you do realize that I have to punish you right, a week’s detention will do just fine” the headmaster said, “okay can I serve my sentence after tryouts. Ms Redbird is going to be here this afternoon it would look bad if the captain isn’t around” Kayla said, “okay fine your punishment can begin next week” the headmaster said, “can I go to class now?” she asked, “sure wouldn’t want you to be late now would we” the headmaster said and Kayla walked out of the office and walked towards her locker. “I bet you are in in trouble right I hope it’s expulsion” a voice said and Kayla turned around, standing behind her was Meagan Saunders, “you clearly don’t know how this school functions and I don’t have time for this” Kayla said and took her gym bag out of the locker and walked towards the gymnastics hall.

It was lunch time and Kayla was just coming out the arts class when she saw Kyle standing there, “well this is new” she said as they walked together towards their lockers, “I am sorry I didn’t tell you what was going on in the first place, it was very stupid of me and it should have been obvious that it would hurt since I know how much you hate secrets” he said and Kayla stopped walking. “what brought this change exactly?” Kayla asked, “I had a heart-to-heart with a stranger” he said as they continued their journey, “well in that case I have to meet this stranger” Kayla said and they walked to the cafeteria in silence. When they arrived all their friends were already sitting, “I see you two made up” Lilly said when they sat down, ‘more or less, what did I miss?” Kayla asked, “nothing important except for the fact that Zoey Redbird is going to be here earlier than we thought” Lilly said, “how early?” Kayla asked, “she arrived twenty minutes ago and wants to meet all the cheerleaders and hopefuls after lunch I couldn’t get hold of you and neither could Amy, I already alerted everyone but you have to meet her personally” Lilly said, “great, talk about first impression flop” Kayla said and stood up she made it to the girl’s locker room and opened her locker. She wore a white “Bratz” boob-tube with orange straps and a white short with white Nike sneakers. She made her way to the gym and found a beautiful woman who looked to be about in her late thirties sitting on a desk. “you must be Kayla” the lady said as soon as she spotted Kayla, “that would be me” Kayla said eyeing the lady. She was petite in a charcoal pantsuit and black stilettos. Her red hair looked like flames on her shoulders, “it’s a pleasure to meet you Mrs Redbird” Kayla said extending her hand, “the pleasure is all mine Kayla and if what I hear about you is true then we will get along just great, and please call me Zoey” Zoey said, “so what can I do to help?” Kayla asked, “I need information from you and also I need you to judge with me I want to see if you are as fair as the tabloids say” Zoey said, “no problem, what information do you need?” she asked, “well for starters talk to me about Lilliana De Campo, is she on the team because she is your best friend or is she really that good?” Zoey asked, “she is better than good, Lilly brings fresh new ideas to the team, and she is my right hand when I am not around and no it’s not because she is my best friend, it’s because she has her own leadership qualities we practically run this team together” Kayla said, “that was a straight-forward answer and I hope she can make you proud in today’s tryouts, look Kayla I am not going to lie to you I want the best on this team, this is going to be the team that brings glory to this country” Zoey said, “and what can we do to make sure that, that happens?” Kayla asked, “we need to cut all the dead weight this is not a school cheer leading team anymore, in a few weeks we are turning it international, that means endorsements, and public events and shoots, so I suggest, you get your time management skills out and polished” Zoey said.

After lunch the gym started filling up with students some there to try out, others just there to watch, even the teachers were there sitting in the bleachers, “well I see the team has a lot of supporters you have made quite the establishment” Zoey said to Kayla as they were sitting on a desk waiting for everybody to arrive, “the team is the pillar of this school” Kayla simply said, “I think it’s about time we begin, you should do the honors after all this is your team” Zoey said, “how much do you want me to tell them?” Kayla asked, “whatever you think is best for your team Kayla you run the show I just manage you, because after all you are the team” Zoey said with a shrug, “okay, cool, good afternoon everyone, if you will please settle down we would like to begin now” Kayla said and the entire gym became completely still, “impressive this is the kind of command that I will need to run this team” Zoey muttered to herself, “okay today is the most important day in the history of this squad, today’s tryouts will be a little different, everybody will be auditioning for a spot on the squad including the old members and to add a twist, there are only twelve spots on offer, and there won’t be any preferences and favorites, you are going to fight for this spot lie your life depends on it because it may as well depend on it. We are going to start with the elimination round, everybody on the floor and if Zoey or I tap you, you are out no second chances” Kayla said, “alright let’s begin” Zoey said.
