Chapter Fourteen
The car window is shattered and obviously bullets are found inside, the lifeless body is now placed on a black body bag and transported to the morgue, the hope of shedding light into the case has turned into darkness and dead-end again and as if someone is preventing them from solving the case, but still they have to keep going. Looking at the surroundings Edward seemed to have notice a paper crumpled, he hesitate at first but eventually due to police instinct he immediately picked it up. He flatten the paper and there is a written message that seemed to be written from a blood Edward sighted that as an evidence to the incident. STAY OUT AND STAY QUITE that’s the paper contains, Chief Coleman arrives and Edward immediately went straight to his superior and hand he paper to him.
“Chief I saw this on the street a while ago.” The Chief grabs the paper and examined it, after thoroughly looking at it he return it to Edward and look at his police officers with concern eyes, the two have also been close to him and on his way from their house he was worried sick that something bad might have happened, but he is also somehow confident that they can take care of themselves.
“Where is Roberts?” he ask Edward.
“Over there.” with gaze is into a corner towards a woman who seem to be holding everything in her power to compose herself from the incident, that person is her only way to solve the case that they’ve been working on for so long now, that was her last card but right now she feels like they are back to square one, she feels like they are just doing everything in circles that there will never be a clarity on the case that they are dealing, every time there is a possible answer to every question there is always a something or someone holding back and preventing them from solving it. What is new to the situation or every case they are dealing, it is always that way, always having dead ends. But somehow she gains sympathy for the man who just got killed in front of them just a minute ago for that was her friend, or became her friend on the process, her training taught her to be tough and don’t let any situation or people from work or involving on work get into her or affected her. Roberts try to compose herself as Chief Coleman approaches her.
“Roberts, I want a full report in my desk by tomorrow and I will expect you and Higgins in my office first thing in the morning.” Chief Coleman turn his back from Roberts and went to talk to the other policemen that are there. Roberts watched her superior walking away from her as her mind drifts from the present towards what actually happened, she keep on repeating and recalling in her thoughts about the possibility if she might ever recall a face from that encounter, retracing everything steps from the doorstep of the building towards where their car were showered with bullets. Everything happened so fast like it was just like lightning passing through, it was a blur in her memory like nothing happened, she’s used to it by now from hundreds of crime scenes in her career but this time it was supposed to be her big shot, her one big case the biggest to be exact and she came into a dead end with her one witness who just been killed, not just a witness but a friend at that, this is not some typical witness protection program but she feels like a part of her is missing and a part of her just been killed. Roberts take her seat on a bench just across the apartment on the sidewalk, watching the crime scene unfolds in front of her where her colleagues are busy, the investigators as well as the other officers who are called and are on duty are busy.
The feeling of anxiety while the clock tick tocks minute by minute are the only thing that is felt and heard in the entire house of the Coleman family while they wait patiently for a news that would be coming from the phone that is resting on her lap, anxious for her to see the device lights up and looking at the unfamiliar number popping in that wide screen, she can feel the eyes of her Aunt Karen looking into her direction waiting for her to answer the unknown number. Kate feels her hand trembling as she holds unto the device and press the answer icon, this situation shouldn’t be new to her or the rest of her family because she grew up having this kind of situation every now and then, or almost every night but answering this call that if off-the-hook ringing in her hands gives her a sense of thrill and anxiety that signals fear and a little bit of nervousness.
“Hello?” she answers reluctantly as she breathes under her nose.
“Kate? It’s Adam. I just want…..” There is this long pause, as if a dead air that fills the other end of the line. Adam clears his throat tighten his grip from the phone as he collects himself and brush of the anxiety feeling like a teenage boy speaking to his high school crush for the first time. This feeling is new to him and he somehow don’t like the feeling of losing control over everything, he doesn’t like the feeling that he lost his focus the main reason why in the first place he wants this woman. After kissing her earlier the unexpected sense of warmth builds inside him but in all times and instances he is willing to brush that off because he is Adam Gadducci and he can’t have warm and fuzzy feeling. As harsh as it may sound but falling in love is a stranger to him and he have no plan of meeting at such, he may want her for himself and no one else but merely for pleasure of his own and his own only, the sense of possession over that goddess is what he wants and he will do anything to have her no matter what it takes and if he can’t have her by means of soft and sweet diligence of persuasion then he will have to enforce the means of having her even if he will kidnap her and lock her inside his own place of pleasure, a place where he can devour her in every inch of her, in any case possible.
