Plates, fork and spoon can only be heard on the dining table while everybody is silently gathered. The round table is like Arthur and his knights had an argument and each have different opinions about the matter, Kate sitting in between Karen and Chief Coleman while Adam sat next to Edward and the Chief which makes him in a very awkward position and he hardly swallow his food every time he would glance towards Kate while he’s feeling the stare of the Chief like daggers pointing right at him but also in some way he feels the same towards Edward whom he noticed earlier have an icy stare and treatment towards him even though they did not say anything to each other or even acknowledged both their presence. He brush off the feeling and thinking it is just a waste of time and he is just nothing to him, which he could easily wipe off, if he want to. He focus his attention to the woman sitting across him whom he wanted to touch ever since he laid his eyes on her, so near yet so far he thought and somehow regret that he had the opportunity to do so earlier and he didn’t do it. Persistence is the key he thought again, just like what his secretary told him about women, “Courtship” which he is not familiar to.
“So, tell me about this party tomorrow.” The Chief asking Adam while slicing his piece of meat, carving his knife too intensely as if he is breaking the plate.
“It’s a fundraising party just like what I said earlier, politicians and elites will be there, business partners and other employees are expected to come as well and so I thought it would also be a great opportunity for Kate to know some of the people she will be working with if she accepts the job.” Unable to chew his food from the glare of the Chief of Police who looks like throwing a dart straight at him. Adam is a powerful man, confident but he can’t explain the fact the he is nervous in front of this people where in fact he could easily manipulate any of them, even the Chief. Looking at Kate who is surprisingly eager while listening to him in contrast of the attitude she showed earlier who seemed to despise him as if he is the cruelest man in the world which for him probably he is. Kate looking at Adam whom she noticed that is nervous from the moment they stepped outside her Dad’s office amused her, funny even that a man like him who seemed to underestimated her earlier is like a puppy now in front of her father, you can’t actually blame him any person that is with the presence of the Chief of police will be scared and intimidated, her father has this aura of superiority but if Adam is the son of a mafia leader just like what her Dad suspected or probably knew, based on the fact that by the looks of it the way Chief Coleman stares at him as if he wants to strangle him to death. Tracking down suspects of the difficult case is what keeps Chief Coleman and this other police officers here in their house busy for the past couple of weeks and their number one suspects are the mafias lurking around the city and there are only two huge tycoons involving in mafias, The Gadducci Empire and The Amari Holdings Inc. but without any solid evidences their theory will always be a theory.
“If it’s not so much trouble could Officer Higgins and Officer Roberts come with her? I just want my daughter’s safety.” He look at Adam intensely that made Kate shiver down her spine.
“Dad it is a fundraising party, it’s not a nightclub and it is embarrassing for Mr. Adam for you to request that.” Kate is shy looking at Adam who seemed to be smiling towards her that made her innermost desires ignites by the look of him, she hated that feeling he gives her she can’t understand what is it but she hated it because she feels like he is dangerous and he was being rude and disrespected her on their first meeting.
“It’s fine, that wouldn’t be a problem, the more the merrier.” Adam stare at everybody who seemed to be attentively listening to him, then he look towards the Chief then to Karen. “If it won’t be enough trouble sir, I am inviting you as well and Karen of course.” Karen smile directly at him and with meekness chew a food in her mouth and gulp a glass of wine from her glass beside her plate.
“I won’t be going to any party for tomorrow, I will be having a night in with my friends. It is a regular schedule we do.” Karen in her age always have schedules to follow to fill up her day, with friends going out or staying in to play any sorts of card games or board games or just watching movies or just a simple talking and get together, or book reading meetings, just to have them past the time.
“I will be busy tomorrow as well, but you guys enjoy.” Chief Coleman look at Higgins who seems to know what he is talking about, for sure in their minds which is at synch in that moment know what it is, which is Go and investigate and keep an eye of my daughter at all times.
The dinner went fine but awkward and mostly filled with silence and utensils clashing each other, but in overall everything is fine. Chief Coleman, Roberts and Higgins went to the office to discuss something confidential while Adam accompany Kate and Karen in the kitchen. While inside the office Chief Coleman studies the files of the missing people and what they have in common.
“There is no much in her except they are involve in a drug dealing scheme, we all know that but to whom and why they were missing?” his face is almost glued to piece of paper in his hand while Roberts is looking at her laptop researching for more information. Higgins is busy almost eavesdropping in the office door about conversation that is going on in the kitchen. “Drop it Higgins, there is not much going on in there, save your ability to eavesdrop tomorrow.” Edward startled by the Chief’s remark and shifts his attention to his co-worker, Edward likes Kate very much, probably almost everyone in the station including the Chief knows that but Edward seem to lack the courage to pursue Kate, probably because he is the Chief’s daughter and he haven’t prove much to him, although he is been with the force long enough and solved lots of cases but he thinks it is not enough, to him Kate is a very special woman, a piece of gem.
“Higgins, could you try and see if the Amari Holdings have any transactions lately, like a few days back? Or any suspicious business.” Martha’s face still laser focus in her laptop handed Edward a folder containing the files about the Amari they have collected so far. Edward looked at them intently, bored and seem to be hopeless until he scanned something and open his own laptop and take a sit on the couch near the window where he have the view of the front door. Searching about a possible event that will take place tomorrow.
“It seems like the Amari Holdings Inc. is invited tomorrow’s party at the Gadducci villa.” Edwards proclaims while still reading the details about this said party.
“But they are Rival Corporation?” Martha comments.
“They say it is a fundraising party, so probably the Gadducci Empire invited everyone who could make a huge donation to the charities.” Chief Coleman look at both of the officer, and they know that this night is a meeting of something investigatory.
