1196 Words
“Did the interview led you two in this coffee shop?” Chief Coleman take his sit from where Adam was sitting earlier as Kate follows her father down, while Karen is still in the counter grabbing them a drink and talking to Vera who occasionally peeks from time to time. “He ran into me while I am with Vera earlier Dad.” Kate look at her father who is half convinced but knowing him he always half convince about her explanations and always wanting more on what is given. “You two seemed to be in the middle of something serious before we entered earlier, what was it all about?” then here it goes, Kate already knows this is going to be a long and interrogative conversation and eventually and she hopes she will not tell him about what actually happened to her earlier or it will be an added file case in his table in no time and his nose will be all over it bit by bit. “He was just offering me a ride home Dad, but I said no, I drove here.” silently wishing that it would be enough. But it wasn’t. “Why would he offered you a ride?” “I think he was just being a gentleman Dad.” The word that is a total opposite to Mr. Adam Gadducci, he is nothing like that word and she knows he will never be, the way he looks at her as if he will eat her alive and harassing her even, even though he is that powerful and intimidating Kate can still feel him scrutinizing every bit and pieces of her body, she find it very rude and disrespectful even the way he talked to Vera, that was impolite of him to dismissed her friend like that, even though he asked her in a nice way, still he sounded very rude. “Gentleman? He was holding your hand as if preventing you from leaving.” He tap his fingers in the table trying to find out what his daughter is hiding from him, he knows her too well that he can tell whether she’s lying or not and by the looks of it she is definitely hiding something from him. She can’t maintain eye contact and she keep on biting her lips which indicates she’s nervous. The unspoken sign of discomfort always fails Kate to hide the truth from the people who knows her too well and she knows that her Dad figured she’s lying and covering up something that would prevent her from going with him into the police station right now and file a complaint, which she’s been avoiding to do because first and foremost she don’t want to see Adam ever again, and she regrets now even bothering to show up into that interview. “So that was the man who made you upset this morning?” she shoot a look at her Aunt who brought them a cup of coffee and two cold drinks plus a donut, a muffin and a slice of chocolate cake. She can’t believe she blurted it out in front of her father which apparently she forgot that she was not supposed to open the topic whenever he is around. Karen suddenly then realize what she has done and sit next to her niece who is obviously pissed off. “Upset? Why did he upset you?” just like a dog who is always in alert mode, he leans over towards the table and asked directly his daughter who is not looking at him nor his sister. “Kate is there something that I should need to know about this morning?” Kate looks at her Dad eventually. “It was a little bit of a misunderstanding Dad, nothing serious.” He knows she lied and she’s aware of that.             Driving his car towards his special parking space of his building then towards the elevator that leads to his office, Adam can’t seemed to wipe the smile in his face as if he just closed a really huge deal, he is in a good mood as he enters his office and quickly requested a bottle of champagne to be deliver in his office immediately. He finds Kate feisty and strong and very confident too, but she’s challenging as well which makes him even more interested in her. He thinks she’s worth spending a time on, and he is always right when judging someone’s character that’s why he is successful on what he does. He likes her even more than before, if it would’ve been her father interrupting them she would be in his lap by now whether she likes it or not. She made it pretty clear to him that she was angry of what he did to her and he got the message but a simple apology won’t suffice the matter. He is not the typical romantic type of person because most women would throw themselves at him and he doesn’t have to exert an effort just to get them, but he got the feeling that Kate is not like those women, she’s different and that part is where he is in lack of expertise come to think of it he is a beginner in this part of courting which in total honesty with himself he is nervous too. Buzzing his secretary entering into his office with folders in her hands.             “Heather can I ask you something?” his secretary who is brunette with glasses on, she’s beautiful but not Adam’s type which is one of the reason he hired her in the beginning, aside from she’s exceptionally capable and qualified he also wants to work with someone he is not attracted to, makes him focus on his work and so far that worked for him perfectly, that is until Kate came along. “What is it sir?” she took a sit in front of his desk, eager and curious at the same time. “What is the usual things women like?” he asked a little bit shy. “Pardon me sir?” she thought she heard him wrong, he never asked her any of those kind of questions before. “What do women like? When someone you like, what do you want him to do for you?” he can’t quiet compel to tell his secretary the words exactly and this is the first for him to get nervous about ordering something towards her. “You mean courting sir?” Heather obviously is surprise seeing her overly confident and very know it all boss, who is most the time very stern and precise on what he is saying struggle to something very simple. She enjoys this side of him and that makes her very happy knowing that she’s not working from a robot but an actual human being. “Yes, that.” “Going on a date, flowers, romantic get-away something to make a woman more important and not just showering her with things.” Heather is romantic type of person and not like those materialistic type of women Adam is used to seeing. “Do something good for her, that is important to her.” Hearing her talking more and more about this foreign stuff to him makes him even think more and slowly questions his intentions towards Kate. He knows this woman is not something to be taken easy with. “Thank you Heather that would be all.”
