Chapter 6

After a few minutes in my silent thoughts, I look up at both of them and almost laugh because they are looking at me like I might bolt at any moment.

“Are you hungry Acadia? I was about to order some lunch, and we can answer any of your questions while we eat” Buford asked a little hesitantly.

We all agreed food was a great option right now and Zaline is going to order it for us.

Zaline pipes up before she orders “I brought some clothes for you to change in if you want to get a shower and dressed”

“Yes, that would actually be nice, it would give me a minute to process all of this before I hear more” I answered, grateful to my best friend.

Buford brings me back to the room I was sleeping in an hour ago, with a quick explanation that it’s one of his guest rooms and not his personal one, making me smile at him.

He lets me know there should be everything I need in the room to get ready. With one last look at me and a smile back he leaves me to myself.

Taking a quick shower, then dressing and blow-drying my hair, I feel a bit better than this morning. Armed with all my wits, my mind focused, and a handful of questions ready for them, I head back downstairs.

It smelled like the food had arrived, my stomach growling as it hit my nose. I guess I was hungrier than I thought. I went back to the office, and we sat in the same spots to start eating.

Of course, I dove right in with my questions that were stuck in my head while we ate “What powers do I have?” I asked.

Zaline answers me “As far as I can tell, you have the gift of precognition, which is the ability to see the future”

I nodded as that seemed right and asked “OK, is that common? I’ve had these dreams my whole life and they just started to get clear, along with this new thing when Gary touched me”

She looks at me while a small smile “It is not rare but also not common. Most people have small premonitions, just in bits and pieces, not as you have them. Pure magic born children usually fully develop their powers by eighteen, and have help from our parents and the group to guide them” she winced at the last statement.

Setting my plate down after I finished, I responded “Seeing as I’m nineteen and have no parents, I see why I’m a bit behind’ I laughed to ease her comfort.

Buford looks like he wants to hug me but instead says “I′m sorry that you didn’t have anyone growing up, but we are here now and will help you in any way we can”

Having a genuine smile for the first time today I told him “Thank you, Buford! Speaking of helping, we can start with some questions. I know what Zaline does. What is your magic ability?”

With a very attractive grin, he looked at me and all of a sudden there is a green fire in his hand, just dancing in his palm like it is natural.

“Wow, does it hurt?” I asked while leaning in to look at it.

He put the fire out by closing his hand “No, it’s part of me, I control it easy as breathing air” still looking like a star-struck fan, I really look at him in a different light.

He is just so handsome and add this protective and sensitive side to him, consider me swooning like the other females.

Blinking myself out of my thoughts “Who was the guy in the alley? He had something like your powers, but his was like a ball of lightning and a different color”

They both look at each other before answering me “We believe he was part of Merdique, they know this is our territory, our capital actually. They are not supposed to be here but we’ve noticed more activity lately” Zaline speaks up.

“It’s like they are looking for something or someone. They haven’t been harming many people, just in and out and staying in the shadows like last night” Buford followed up after Zaline “but to answer your other question, he has the orb power. Its not fire exactly but its like a ball of lightning”

Wow, there is a lot to learn if this is going to be my new life.
