After that incident, Jace noticed that Emerald had changed. Her stoic face and lifeless aura replaced the warm greetings she would always give him in the morning for breakfast. Like now, he went to the dining hall for dinner and sat down while his wife placed the food on the table. She wasn't looking or talking to him, which annoyed him.
"Get me my water," he said, which Emerald did quickly. She placed a glass on the table before she poured some water. Jace drank from it, but "f**k! It's so cold!" he exclaimed, glaring at her. Young Morgan ignores him but returns to the kitchen for another pitcher of warm water and glass. Young Higginson continued eating and left the dining room while his wife cleaned.
In his bedroom, Jace wondered why his wife acted like that. 'Did she already give up?'
