THE MAFIA QUEEN'S SECOND LIFE Chapter 10: The First Day The morning sun slowly entered through the curtains of Rolgried's dorm room. She opened her eyes. For a few seconds, she forgot where she was. Then she remembered. Harvard. Her new life. Her new identity. Eva Rose. Rolgried sat on the edge of her bed and looked at the photograph beside her. Her parents. She gently touched the frame. "Good morning, Mom. Dad." Her voice was soft. "I finally made it." She smiled faintly. "I'll make you proud." Her phone suddenly vibrated. She picked it up. It was a message from Jamie. «Jamie: Good morning. First day?» Rolgried smiled. «Rolgried: Yes. I'm getting ready.» Another message appeared almost immediately. «Jamie: Don't forget to eat breakfast.» She rolled her eyes. «Rolgried: You're acting like my father.» Jamie replied: «Jamie: Someone has to remind you.» Rolgried laughed quietly. She didn't realize how much she had missed talking to him. Before leaving, she looked at herself in the mirror. The glasses were still there. Her hair was still different. Her appearance was ordinary. No one would recognize her. "Eva Rose," she whispered. Then she picked up her bag. "Let's begin." --- The Harvard campus was already busy. Students walked in every direction. Rolgried moved quietly among them. She noticed something immediately. Nobody was watching her. Nobody knew her. There were no bodyguards. No mafia members. No enemies. For the first time, she felt invisible. And she loved it. "Eva!" Rolgried turned. Emma waved from across the walkway. "Good morning!" Rolgried smiled. "Good morning." Emma walked toward her. "Did you sleep well?" "Yes." "Good. Because today is going to be exhausting." Rolgried laughed. "Why?" "You'll see." Emma grabbed her arm. "Come on. I'll show you where our first class is." Rolgried followed her. As they walked, Emma talked continuously. She told Rolgried about the professors, the library, the cafeteria, and the students. Rolgried listened quietly. It felt strange. Not unpleasant. Just unfamiliar. She had spent years surrounded by people who either feared her or obeyed her. Now someone was talking to her simply because they wanted to be her friend. No hidden agenda. No political reason. No demand. Just friendship. Rolgried smiled. Maybe this second life could really be different. --- During their first class, Rolgried sat near the window. She opened her notebook. The professor began speaking. Rolgried listened carefully. She had always been intelligent, but her mafia responsibilities had prevented her from enjoying normal education. Now she wanted to learn everything. She wrote notes quickly. Emma glanced at her notebook. "Wow." Rolgried looked at her. "What?" "Your notes are so organized." Rolgried smiled. "I like keeping things organized." Emma laughed. "You're definitely different." Rolgried froze for half a second. Different. That word always made her nervous. But Emma continued smiling. "I mean it in a good way." Rolgried relaxed. "Thank you." --- At lunch, Emma introduced Rolgried to two more students. They sat together at a table. Rolgried listened as they talked about classes and professors. For a moment, she forgot everything. Then her phone vibrated. She secretly checked it beneath the table. A message from her personal assistant. «Assistant: Boss. We received another report.» Rolgried's smile disappeared. «Rolgried: What happened?» The response came quickly. «Assistant: Someone has been asking questions about your whereabouts.» Her fingers tightened around the phone. «Rolgried: Who?» «Assistant: We don't know yet.» Rolgried looked around the cafeteria. Hundreds of students. Dozens of staff. People coming and going. She couldn't allow herself to become careless. «Rolgried: Find out. Quietly.» «Assistant: Yes, Boss.» She locked her phone. Emma looked at her. "Are you okay?" Rolgried immediately smiled. "Yes. Just a family message." Emma nodded. "Everything okay?" "Everything is fine." It was another lie. A necessary one. --- That afternoon, Rolgried left the campus alone. She wanted to explore the city. The streets were crowded. Cars passed continuously. People walked past her without giving her a second glance. She smiled. She liked being anonymous. Then she noticed something. A black car. It had been behind her for several minutes. Rolgried continued walking. She didn't look back again. Instead, she used the reflection of a shop window. The black car was still there. Her instincts immediately awakened. Someone was following her. She changed direction. The car continued. She turned into another street. The car followed. Rolgried's eyes narrowed. Who are you? She stopped near a busy intersection. The car suddenly disappeared. Rolgried remained still. She waited. Nothing. Maybe it was only coincidence. But Rolgried never believed in coincidences. She continued walking. --- That evening, Jamie called. Rolgried answered. "Hello?" "How was your first day?" Rolgried smiled. "Good." "Did you make friends?" "Yes." "Already?" "Her name is Emma." Jamie chuckled. "That's good." Rolgried sat on a bench outside her dormitory. She looked up at the night sky. "Jamie?" "Yes?" "Do you ever think about the past?" There was silence. "Sometimes." Rolgried lowered her eyes. "I thought going abroad would make me forget everything." "You don't have to forget." "Why?" "Because your past is part of who you are. You just don't have to let it control you." Rolgried remained silent. His words touched something inside her. "Thank you." "For what?" "For always knowing what to say." Jamie laughed. "I'm just lucky." Rolgried smiled. Then she remembered the black car. "Jamie..." His voice immediately became serious. "What happened?" "I think someone followed me today." Silence. "Are you sure?" "I don't know." "Where are you now?" "Outside my dorm." "Go inside." Rolgried stood. "Jamie—" "Rolgried." He rarely called her by her real name. She stopped. "Yes?" "Please." She could hear the concern in his voice. "I'm going inside." "Good." Rolgried smiled softly. "Good night, Jamie." "Good night." The call ended. Rolgried walked into the dormitory. But before entering the building, she looked across the street. A black car was parked in the darkness. Her eyes narrowed. The same car. This time, she was certain. Someone was watching her. --- Inside the car, a man lowered his phone. He stared at the dormitory entrance. "She's here." Another voice came through the phone. "Are you certain?" The man smiled. "Yes." He looked at the photo in his hand. It was an old photograph of Rolgried Heart. Then he looked toward the dormitory. "The girl everyone thought disappeared..." He smiled. "She's alive." A pause. Then the voice on the phone asked: "Do you know where she is staying?" The man looked toward the building. "Not yet." "Find out." "Yes." The call ended. The man smiled. "Welcome to your second life, Rolgried Heart." Inside the dormitory, Rolgried suddenly stopped walking. Her instincts were screaming. Someone had found her. And this time... She wasn't sure if she could protect everyone around her without revealing who she really was. TO BE CONTINUED...
