Chapter 20 : Too Close
(Zara POV)
The moment Dominic ended the call, the atmosphere in the room shifted. He looked at me for a brief second, not confused or surprised, just aware, like he already knew what this interruption meant for both of us.
“I guess you need to go,” he said, his voice steady, but there was something underneath it that made it clear he was already moving mentally before his body followed.
I nodded once. “Yes… I’m sorry.”
I wasn’t sure what I was apologizing for, only that it felt like the easiest thing to say.
He didn’t argue. He just reached for his phone again and started typing. Within minutes he had arranged a car for me. I opened my mouth like I might say something else, but I closed it again. There was no version of this where I stayed and pretended nothing
