Chapter 20: Reclaimed on the Road (Elena's POV)
The truck speeds away from the ambush dust still rising behind us. I sit between Matteo and Luca in the back seat Nico driving fast eyes on the road. My heart hammers loud in my ears blood still rushing from the gunshots from Daddy's shoulder bleeding on the asphalt from the way I walked away without looking back.
Matteo holds me close arm around my waist hand resting low on my hip. His shoulder is bandaged quick rough job blood soaked through the cloth but he doesn't complain. He just looks at me eyes dark intense like he's seeing me for the first time in years.
