Chapter 18

I wake up and sigh. Today I have to go to the jewelers to get a ring from Edward. I have been postponing this for a few days, but i cant put it off any longer without Edward giving Eric hell, or showing up himself to force me. Neither of which i want.

I look around the room to see im alone. Eric and my father have been hanging out quite often. My father has been telling Eric stories about his parents and sister, as well as trying to get as much Intel on what's going on in Edwards borders.

I climb out of bed and walk into my closet to grab some clothing. just a simple tank top and some jean shorts. i carry the clothes into the bathroom and get a fast shower. Once i finish my shower and get dressed, I walk out of the alpha quarters and head to my fathers office, just wanting to get this trip overwith.

I knock on my fathers office door and my father opens it while laughing. "hey darling." he moves to the side so that i can walk passed him and over to Eric.

Eric kisses my forehead quickly, smiling. "What's up babe?"

" I'm ready to go to the jewelers to get this overwith, so you don't get in trouble with Edward, but so that Edward doesn't show up here to force me."

"Well, you two should go out and enjoy yourselves out on the town. Turn this horrible day into something good for the two of you." my father advises. "Don't allow him to ruin your entire day."

I nod and look at Eric. "what do you think?"

Eric smiles and takes my hand. "Take my mate out and spoil her. It sounds amazing to me."

"Alright, see you later father." I walk out of my father's office with Eric. We head for the garage to get into my car. Eric opens the passenger side door for me, and I slide into the seat. Eric walks around the car and climbs into the driver's seat.

I grab Eric's hand as he drives, feeling the tingles as our skin touches. It's such an amazing feeling,. I hope it never goes away. As we pull up to the jewelers, i take a deep breath, not wanting to go in and do this, but knowing it has to be done.

Eric rubs the back of my hand. "Lily, however long you need, we'll take. If you want to sit here for an hour, we will."

I give Eric a small smile and nod. "Thank you, but i just want to get this overwith. Let's go and then go have fun together." I open my car door and climb out to show how serious I am.

Eric rushes out of the driver's seat and walks over to me, taking my hand and walking into the jewelers. I look around the store. It has maple cherry wood all over and beautiful glass showcases filled with jewelry. We walk up to the counter that a woman is standing behind, shes an older woman with gray hair and her hair is done up in a bun. Shes dressed in formal clothes and has spectacles that sit on the end of her nose.

" What can i help you with?" She looks between Eric and I and gives a grim smile.

Eric looks at her. "We need engagement sets please."

the woman sighs and grabs a tray filled with rings. I look at the rings and pull one out to look at. its very simple, just an oval cut diamond with a gold band. Eric checks the prices on the rings, and notices that the most expensive ring in this tray is only 2 thousand dollars.

"Can we get a tray with more expensive ring sets please? Alot more expensive." Eric asks politely.

The woman looks at us quietly through her spectacles that are on the tip of her nose and sighs again. "Sir, while i will grab the more expensive tray, you should know that we don't offer lay always, or hold rings for people to pay slowly."

Eric looks taken aback and the woman rudeness and crosses his arm. "mam the most expensive rings this shop has, also try treating your customers a little nicer or you will lose my business. I have a lot of money to spend and would like to be treated properly."

I look between eric and the woman quietly. She nods her head. "My apologies." She walks into the back and brings out a much more intricate tray of rings that has about a quarter of the amount of rings than the other ones.

I look through the rings astonished at how big and beautiful they are. I find one ring with a white gold band that covered in intricate blue diamonds, along with a princess cut diamond in the middle. If I were to choose a ring, it would be this one, i love it.

Eric looks at me and then back at the lady. "which is the most expensive ring this shop has."

The lady looks at him with a shocked expression. "The most expensive ring we have is locked away."

"I asked you for the most expensive rings. Please get it." Eric sighs and looks back at me, who is still fiddling with the ring I found.

The lady comes back out with a single ring. Its diamonds are huge and it is yellow gold. its laced with mini diamonds all around it. it truly is a beautiful ring but its just not my taste.

"Lily, she needs to measure your finger." Eric says, placing a hand behind my back.

I smile. "Sorry." I place the ring i love back on the tray and hand the lady my hand who pulls out a bunch of ring sizers.

" Okay, a 7 is your finger size."

I pull my hand away and walk over the men's engagement set. I quickly scan through the sets and see one that has a single blue diamond that would match the ring i loved. I look back at Eric and walk back over.

Eric kisses my forehead quietly as the person starts ringing in the price of the ring and getting things ready.

i notice that theres a sign saying that online orders and deliveries are accepted along with the website name. "im going to go back to the car."

"ok ill be out soon."

I walk out of the store and get back into the passenger seat of my car. I pull up the website and look for the men's ring I saw. i quickly place it in my cart. i take a general guess as to what his ring size would be and figure it would probably be a 10.

After lily leaves the store i look at the lady and pay for Edwards ring. I quickly grab the ring Lily was fixated on and ask the lady to ring this one up separately.

She looks a little confused but complies. "both of these rings are size 7 so there's no need for alterations."

"perfect." I pay for both and only ask for one bag. i take the ring i bought that Lily loved in my pocket and the ring from Edward in the bag. "thank you." i walk out of the store and notice lily intently looking at her phone. Shes beautiful.

"yes, our mate definitely is. that ring she picked will look beautiful on her finger."

I climb into the drivers seat causing her to jump. I wonder why shes jumpy, what was she up to.

-Lily-

Eric scares the crap out of me. damn it lily keep it cool you don't want him to think your up to something. "Hey. Everything ok?"

Eric nods and raises an eyebrow. "everything ok with you?"

I nod quickly and put my phone away, and buckling in my seatbelt. "Where too?"

"I was thinking we could go have lunch and then maybe go see a movie? like a normal date that humans go on?"

I smile. "sounds like a lot of fun." I take his hand as he starts driving.

-few hours later-

Lunch was delicious, we both had a soup and sandwich, then went to go see a scary movie and came back to the pack house and walk into the alpha quarters.

My father looks over at us from the table and smiles. "how was your afternoon?"

Eric and I look at one another and smile. "It was great. We went and saw a movie and had lunch."

"Lily was going to jump out of her skin at the movie, she was holding my arm for dear life." Eric says with a laugh.

I stick my tongue out and laugh. "were going to retire to our room, father. have a good night." Eric and I walk up to our room and lay in bed.

-october-

James and I just finished training and are heading back to the pack house.

"thank you for taking the time to train me, sis. I am going to make sure I can get really strong just like you and dad."

"You'll be an alpha one day." I take a deep breath and put my hands on James' shoulders. "Take a look around this place James. memorize it. Every last detail." I give his shoulders a squeeze.

"This place isn't going anywhere lily." James says a little confused fused.

I sigh and look at him sadly. "James. When Edward comes in April, he will destroy everything here. Everything uncle colin and aunt Carol built when they lived here. everything mom and dad have improved since we got here. it will all be destroyed it's what he does."

James' eyes widen as realization sets it. "I didn't think of that." he takes a look around the land and the pack house slowly.

"All of this will be yours James. it will be up to you to rebuild. One day I'd like to come here and see what you create with uncle colin and dad's hearts in mind."

" I don't want it anytime soon."

I sigh and wrap my arm around his shoulders and walk into the pack house with James.

"I'm going to see what dad and Eric are doing. go have a shower and have some fun James. go hug mom and spend time with her." James nods and I walk to dad's office and knock.

Dad opens the door and his facial expression is grim. "Lily."

I walk into the office and he shuts the door behind me. I look at Eric whose expression is also grim.

"ok why the sour faces." I ask confused.

Eric walks over to me and hands me his phone.

I look down and see a message from Edward. I have made a union with a group of vampires. Lily's powers are extensive and I want to make sure nothing goes wrong when I come to extract her.

I look up from the phone at Eric. "vampires? since when do werewolves team up with vampires. what could a nest of vampires possibly gain by joining forces with werewolves?"

Eric and dad look between eachother then back at me.

"A powerful hybrid given the right female." my father says grimly.

"there's no way Edward would agree to that! why would he?"

Eric sits down. "in his eyes from what I'm assuming is, gaining an army for a measly baby. what's a couple months without touching you when he'll have you forever."

"No!" I walk out of the office angrily and out of the pack house. I quickly strip off my clothes infront of the pack house, not caring who sees and shift into embrey and take off running.

-Eric-

Lily screams no and walks out of the office, I stand to chase after her but Leon stops me. "let her cope. this needs to sink in for her, and for you. she's realizing she's going to be used for her powers and she's going to lash out in the forest, let her."

I look at him. "how do you know she's going to the forest to lash out."

"she always takes off into nature when she's upset. ever since she was a little girl."

My phone vibrates again and I pull it out and see another message from Ed. Cal and I have figured out the bracelet for lily as well. everything is coming in order. only 6 more months just her room left to finish now.

I sigh and walk to the window and look out it. "the bracelets been finished."

Leon sighs. "It's almost time."

-Lily-

I ran through the forest for hours. it's well into the night now. I shift back into human form once I make it back and get to the lake.

I sit on the grass by the water and pull my knees up to my chest.

the only pups I want are Eric's pups.

Embrey sighs. Lily well figure this out. Try and keep strong.

I put my head into my knees tears falling down my bare legs. it's not fair.

trust that the goddess has a plan. Embrey says trying to cheer me up

her plan so far sucks. I sigh. sorry, moon goddess, I'm just confused and lost as to how this can be my plan.

I doubt she's taken offense to that lily. Embrey laughs.

I feel warm arms wrap around me and the tingles all over my skin and am lifted up bridal style. knowing from the touch and the sudden calmness washing through me I lay my head against Eric's chest.

I close my eyes and listen to his heartbeat as I feel him walk up the stairs in the pack house heading for the alpha quarters.

"Where's my daughters clothes." I hear my mom say surprised.

"I think she shifted and lost them this is how I found her. I'm going to run a bath for her and let her soak." I hear my mom say an OK and feel a pat on Eric's shoulder. I'm assuming from my father.

Eric walks into our room and then the bathroom and sits me on the sink so he can run the bath.

I feel another tear fall down my cheek and drop onto my thigh.

Eric turns the water off and gets undressed quickly. after he's undressed he walks back over to me picking me up and placing me in the front of the tub and climbing in behind me. once he sits down and puts his legs on either side of me he pulls me back against his chest.

I lay my head to the side, my cheek on his chest. the hot water feeling good against my skin.

"I'm sorry Lily. I'm sorry I can't fight against Edward and protect you the way your mate should. I want more than anything to take his head off his shoulders and protect you from everyone."

I nod feeling tears escaping my eyes again. "don't apologize. you and everyone else are doing everything you possibly can. the problem is, so is Edward. I am keeping faith that the moon goddess has a bigger plan and that while things may get bad, they'll work out for the best, and I'll walk away stronger." I sigh and feel his arms tighten around me, and he kisses the top of my head.

"We're going to relax and lay together tonight, and I'm going to hold you close, and if you want to cry into my chest, then that's what we'll do." Eric says, moving my hair behind my ear and rubbing my arm.

I give a small smile. "Thank you."

Eric washes my back and my hair for me, just letting me completely relax. once we finish washing, he gets out of the tub, wraps a towel around his waste, and then handing me a towel. I wrap it around me climb out of the tub and start drying myself off as Eric dries himself off.

He grabs his robe and puts it on after putting his towel in the hamper. once I finish drying off he takes my towel and puts that in the hamper and puts my robe on me. once it's on he picks me up and walks to the bed laying my down and climbing in beside me and pulls me close to him.

"Eric, I love you, thank you for all this."

"I love you too Lily. I wish I could do more." he kisses my forehead.

I breathe a sigh of relaxation and close my eyes just wanting the day to be over with. I feel Eric playing with my hair and just listen to his heart, slowly drifting off to sleep.
