Chapter Five Threatened by Aunt

1014 Words
Cassidy POV My hands clutched the staircase until my knuckles turned white. There was a time when I would tremble at my Aunt’s voice because I was scared that she would decide to cut off ties with me since she was my only relative but right now, I couldn’t care less. Although I couldn’t say what has changed, I knew something has changed. There was a certain boldness that filled my heart as I stared at her and I was going to be riding on that. After what happened last night at Blue Garden with Liam and my best friend, I knew that the more people think you’re weak, the more you’ll be taken for granted and this is me putting an end to all forms of bullying. “What?” Aunt Mabel’s brows creased in disbelief. I had never replied to her, so this was a first. “Besides Aunt, I am not your daughter. It’s my life and I have total control over it meaning I can go where I want to, talk to whomever I want to and stay out as much as I like,”. “Cassidy!” she huffed. “Shouldn’t you be more concerned about your daughter who’s had several abortions at only 16 years of age? But I guess, that is what happens when you pay more attention to people’s lives other than yours,”. “How dare you?” Mia fumed behind her mum. “I am still a virgin and I’ve never had a single abortion. Look who’s talking; your life is a mess and I’m going to let Liam know you weren’t home all night. He’ll for sure break up with you this time,”. “Then go ahead!” I urged with a sneer on my face. Images of Liam and Tricia on the bed last night flitted to my memory but I quickly pushed them away. “Mia, I dare you to call Liam and ask him to break up with me. Who the f**k do you think you are that I have to fear you? Are you prettier than I am? You’re who you are because of my family and you had better not bite the hands that fed you,”. Mia gasped as she covered her mouth in shock. She never thought I would talk back at her. Back then, I would already be sobbing as mother and daughter would rain obscenities at me but not anymore. “Mom,” Mia recovered from her shock “Are you just going to watch her disrespect us?”. “Don’t worry, darling,” Aunt Mabel stared at me with hatred “I’m going to teach her a lesson you will never forget in a hurry,”. Her gaze fell on the basketball bat resting in the corner of the room. She picked it up and started towards me. I gritted my teeth in anger as I watched the familiar scene play out. This has always been my Aunt’s way of dealing with me. I watched as she came towards me making up my mind that I would fight back this time around. A few inches from me, the door opened and her lawyer ran towards her placing himself between me and her. “Mabel, drop the bat,” her lawyer ordered. “I’ve got to teach this girl a lesson, Tom,” She replied without taking her eyes off me “She’s grown wings overnight and I’ll clip them off,”. “You can’t do that with the bat,” the lawyer argued as he held on to her. “If anything should happen to her then all of our plans will fall through. Is that what you want? Or have you forgotten how much we’ve worked hard for this? The resources and energy we’ve put into it… C’mon Mabel, wake up,”. The pep talk did her lots of good as she lowered the bat to the ground and finally took her eyes off me. “Thank you, Tom… it’s just that this girl annoys the f**k out of me but I’m fine. Mia,” she turned to her daughter. Where is that document?”. Mia took out a stack of documents and handed them over to her mom. Aunt Mabel collected the documents and pointed them towards me ‘Sign these documents,” she said. I eyed her suspiciously as I stared at the documents. “And what am I signing this time around?” I asked. “Nothing that concerns you,” she hissed “Just sign the document,”. I just shrugged and collected the documents from her. I began to flip through them satisfied that she was not comfortable with me doing that. “I can’t sign this,” I announced a few minutes later. “And why is that?” Aunt Mabel’s voice increased in agitation. “Because I don’t want to,” I said and threw the documents at her. “Cassidy,” she roared “Are you mad? How dare you?”. “Listen to me, Aunt Mabel… how shameless can you be? How dare you try to transfer my equity in H&G to yourself? How shameless can you be? That’s all that was left to me by my parents and you want to take that too? For Pete’s sake Aunt Mabel... I am your niece. Your late sister’s daughter,”. “What nonsense are you on about now, Cassidy?” She sighed “The company belongs to you no doubt but you’ll be marrying into the Fullers now and if you don’t transfer the full ownership to me, the Fullers will own it too. That’s what I’m trying to avoid. Or would you rather my sister’s sweat and your dad’s hard work burn to the ground?”. “Really?” I scoffed. “Yes, Cassidy Hart. Now be a good girl and sign the documents, immediately. The lawyer will take care of everything you don’t have to worry,”.
