While cleaning alongside the other servants, a burly hand suddenly seized my neck from behind, forcing me to the ground immediately. The mere sound of Ethan's voice sent shivers of terror down my spine.
"You pathetic creature!" The Alpha's enraged voice echoed through the space.
"My chambers were not cleaned last night!" Ethan screamed at my already trembling body in the sitting room. The other servants looked away; they already knew the outcome of this conversation. Ethan sounded terrifying, and his cruelty is something I couldn't get used to.
Just as he was about to hit me, I closed my eyes Instinctively, awaiting to feel the pain he was going to inflict on me. But there was nothing. I opened my eyes slowly and found myself inside my bedroom.
Phew! Thank goodness. It was just another nightmare.
Ethan's cruelty towards me for the past few years has started causing me to have nightmares.
A new day had arrived, and I survived a night without experiencing any physical or bittersweet pain inflicted by Ethan since he had been gone for months now.
He has been searching of a promising Beta that will assist him in leading the Moonwalkers pack.
I was once the promising Beta of the pack but I was reduced to a subordinate Omega, enslaved under the dominion of Ethan and his cousin, Beatrice.
Being subjected to an ordinary Omega without any authority in the pack, I became a pawn in everyone's game. But my situation grew even more complicated after the moon goddess unexpectedly mated me with Ethan.
I woke up in my teeny tiny room, literally the smallest room in the castle. I tried to relax in my uncomfortable bed, but I didn't get much rest before Beatrice sent for me. Even though we were half cousins, she's the main root of my sufferings as she was the one who poisoned Ethan's heart against me.
Beatrice already harbored dislike towards me long before my mother married Ethan's father. Her character is morally corrupt and tarnished but yet her beauty is refined and attractive, getting the attention of men from every corner.
I quickly followed the servant who had come to relay Beatrice's summons. "Where are we headed?" I asked Greyson, my trusted companion who had become the kindest person in my life.
Greyson was kind enough to disclose our destination beforehand. "I'm not entirely sure, but I overheard Madam Loretta saying..." He paused, coming closer to my ear. "She's going to fetch the promising Beta," he whispered.
We had to be cautious because werewolves were everywhere with heightened senses and they could hear our conversation from afar.
Madam Loretta is Beatrice's mother who just got into town, I've been trying to get on her good side ever since. But where did that got me, I only ended up receiving a resounding slap for every little mistake I does.
I couldn't understand why my presence was required on this journey. A few minutes later, we arrived outside the castle and upon witnessing what lay beyond, I finally understood why I was included in this journey.
There were over a hundred ladies in waiting and even more male servants, including werewolves from the pack. All were to accompany Beatrice on her quest to retrieve the new Beta. I wondered who this Beta might be to warrant such an elaborate undertaking by Beatrice.
"The Beta from the 'Ironclaw pack' must be someone truly special. It's as if we're welcoming a new Alpha to the pack," Greyson whispered to me.
"It sure looks like it," I replied with a grin. But I wondered if Ethan will also be coming back home.
I was given a matching gown like the other ladies in waiting, it wasn't my size but I dared not voice my complaints.
There were only a few carriages to transport the important members of the pack to the Ironclaw castle. I was one of the selected few to walk the five miles journey on foot, escorting Beatrice as she sat inside the grandest chariot.
The journey seemed to stretch on endlessly, but we eventually arrived at our destination unharmed. I felt my strength disappearing, on the verge of collapse.
I needed to answer the call of nature but I mustered the will to hold myself until Beatrice and the others entered the castle.
I had visited the Ironclaw castle a decade ago, but I heard it was demolished and rebuilt. And indeed, it was.
Words failed me to describe the magnificent beauty before my eyes. The castle stood tall and majestic, an embodiment of grandeur. Truly, the Ironclaw Pack was the wealthiest pack in Midgard.
As Beatrice and the others made their way inside, I quickly ran off to the side of the castle, finding a secluded spot to relieve myself. I didn't even know where I was headed and before I could realize it, I found myself in the garden behind the castle.
It was a captivating sight to behold. The garden was built around a beautiful water fountain. I could barely see what lay ahead of me because the garden was laid out like a puzzle game. I realized I was trapped in the garden with no way out. Every path I followed only led me back to the water fountain.
After ten minutes of trying to find my path and failing, I sat on the floor and dipped my feet into the fountain, I playfully splashed water in different directions. As I continued to interact with the water fountain, I heard a deep voice from behind that startled me.
"I thought I was the only one seeking solace from the world," the voice echoed.
Raising my head up, I saw a man, probably in his thirties. He was looking like a Greek god, wearing the most perfect smile I've ever seen in a long time.
"I'm sorry, sir. I got lost in this garden, so I decided to sit here until someone came along." I quickly stood up and apologized for disturbing the fountain
"You don't need to apologize. I also do the same thing from time to time as well. Are you here with Beatrice?" he asked.
I could hardly focus on his words; all my attention was captivated by his appearance. I wished the moon goddess had mated me with such a man. He was humble in character and charming in speech, unlike Ethan.
"Oh, I apologize... Yes, I'm here with Miss Beatrice," I replied a few seconds later, stumbling over my words.
"You look bewitching, maiden. Perhaps you are the moon goddess in human form," the young man jested, attempting to lighten the mood.
I chuckled and replied, "One should never jest about the moon goddess. My appearance is far from the beauty of the moon, let alone that of the moon goddess."
He continued to gaze at me with admiration and asked for my human name, clearly he was still referring to me as the moon goddess.
"I'm Emily Adams," I stammered in response to his question. His gaze was as clear as the midnight moon, and those reddish lips stirred a sense of desire within me.
"Are you saying you're Ethan's sister?" he asked in disbelief upon hearing my last name.
With my tone carrying a tease of bitterness, I replied. "Forget about me. What's your name, moon god?" I asked with a grin as I attempted to shift the focus away from myself.
He approached me until there was no space between us, as if he wanted to claim my gentle lips. With closed eyes, I awaited feeling his lips on mine but at that moment, he answered my question.
"I'm your promising Beta, Atlas. The son of the Ironclaw Alpha."
"Huh!" I exclaimed.
