Nerina's POV
"Beta Xavier, speaking!" The familiar husky voice could be heard over the cellphone receiver and all living life drained out of me.
"Hallo? Hallo? Hallo? Can you hear me?" Beta Xavier asked over and over again while I tried to gain the strength to say anything.
"Halooooo? I can hear you breathing. Guess you can't hear me..." he said, and he dropped the call.
I closed the cell phone and placed it back on the desk, visibly shaking as I stared bewildered at the phone...
I can't do this!
I just can't!
"Are you giving up? Should I call them..?" Zinta asked with a raised mocking eyebrow.
"No," I said, feeling the tears burn behind my eyes, "I will do it!"
I let out a breath and picked up the phone from the desk... clinging to it in my hand as I tried to focus.
