Chapter 13

1137 Words
"Two seconds too long," Arnav hissed. He stood up, pulling her with him. He pinned her against the dresser, his eyes dark with a jealousy that was almost animalistic. "I don't want anyone else to see that smile. I don't want anyone to hear your voice unless it’s calling my name. Am I making myself clear?" "You're insane," Diya whispered, her eyes filling with tears. "I am obsessed," Arnav corrected, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous growl. "There is a difference. Madness has no logic. My logic is simple—you are the only light I have, and I will kill anyone who tries to dim it. Even if that person is you." He kissed her then, a hard, punishing kiss that tasted of salt and desperation. He was forcing his love on her, making her realize that her world now began and ended with him. Despite her fear, Diya felt a traitorous spark of desire. That was the most terrifying part—how his darkness was slowly seeping into her own soul. Later that night, as Arnav slept with his arm draped possessively over her waist, Diya lay awake. She looked at the moon through the barred windows. She knew she had to do something. Not just for her freedom, but to save the man she loved from his own demons. But a new player had entered the game. In a hidden office across the city, a man looked at a photo of Arnav and Diya. It was Mr. Chatterjee’s brother, a man with more power and less mercy than Mehra ever had. "He broke my brother," the man said, his voice cold. "I will break his heart. And his heart beats in that girl." The war wasn't over. It was just moving into a darker, more personal phase. The tension in the Singhania Mansion was so thick it could be felt in every breath Diya took. Arnav had stopped going to the office entirely; he ran his empire from the study, but his real focus never left Diya. He had moved her vanity table into his study so he could watch her while he worked. "Arnav, I need to go to the library. I’ve finished all the books here," Diya said, standing up. Arnav didn't look up from his laptop, but his voice was like a cold snap. "No. The library is on the first floor. There are too many windows there. Stay where I can see you." "I am not a piece of furniture, Arnav!" Diya snapped, her frustration finally boiling over. "You can't keep me tethered to you like this!" In a flash, Arnav was in front of her. He grabbed her waist, lifting her until her toes barely touched the floor. His eyes were bloodshot, filled with a mixture of exhaustion and a dark, obsessive hunger. "I am keeping you alive! Do you know what I found in the mail today? A picture of you, Diya. A picture of you sleeping in this very bed, with a red cross over your heart." Diya’s breath hitched. "What?" "They were inside, Diya. Someone was inside this room," Arnav hissed, his grip tightening. He buried his face in her neck, his breath hot against her skin. "I won't let you out of my sight. Not for a second. If I have to lock you in a cellar to keep you safe, I will. You are mine. My life, my soul, my obsession. And I will burn the world before I let them touch a single hair on your head." He didn't just want to protect her; he wanted to consume her. He kissed her with a desperation that was almost violent, claiming her lips as if they were his only lifeline. Diya felt her heart racing—half in fear, half in a strange, forced submission to his overwhelming presence. That night, the attack came. Not from outside, but through the very technology Arnav trusted. The mansion's security system was hacked. The lights went out, and the electronic locks on the doors clicked open. "Stay behind me!" Arnav roared, pulling a gun from under his pillow. He didn't even put on a shirt. In the moonlight, his scarred back and muscled frame looked like that of a dark warrior. Shadowy figures entered the suite. Arnav didn't hesitate. He fired with lethal precision, each shot finding its mark. But he didn't move away from Diya. He kept one arm locked around her waist, using his body as a human shield. "Arnav, look out!" Diya screamed as a man lunged with a knife. Arnav caught the man's wrist, the sound of bone snapping echoing in the silent room. He didn't just disable him; he finished him with a coldness that made Diya’s blood run cold. When the lights finally came back on, the room was a mess of shattered glass and fallen men. Arnav stood in the center, his chest heaving, his body covered in sweat and a few drops of blood—none of it his. He turned to Diya, his eyes wild. He grabbed her, checking every inch of her body for a scratch. "Are you hurt? Tell me!" "I'm fine, Arnav... I'm fine," she sobbed, clutching his arms. "They touched the door," Arnav whispered, his voice cracking with madness. "They were inches away from you." He pulled her into a crushing embrace, his obsession reaching a fever pitch. "We’re moving. Tonight. To the underground bunker in the hills. No one will find us there. No one will ever see you again but me." Diya looked into his eyes and saw the truth. The 'Devil' wasn't just fighting his enemies anymore; he was losing himself in his love for her. And in his quest to save her, he was becoming the very cage she feared most. The mountain air was thin and biting, but inside the underground bunker, the temperature was perfectly controlled. Arnav had spent millions building this fortress into the side of a cliff. There were no windows, only high-definition screens displaying a live feed of the surrounding forest. "You’re safe here, Diya. No one can hack these walls. No one can track us," Arnav said, his voice echoing in the metallic hallway. He was still shirtless, a dark bandage wrapped around his shoulder where a stray piece of glass had cut him. Diya looked around the living area. It was luxurious, filled with everything she could ever need, but it felt like a tomb. "How long, Arnav? How long are we going to hide here?" Arnav walked toward her, his footsteps heavy and deliberate. He trapped her between the cold steel wall and his warm, solid chest. "As long as it takes to eliminate every single shadow that dares to look at you. If that means forever, then so be it."
