“Skyler, please listen!” Jinx's voice rings out in my thoughts. “Mate never rejected us. You must turn around,” she insists.
‘Jinx, it's not an option for me. He made it clear that he would reject me due to the fourteen-year age gap and the fact that he is my parents' best friend. He has been a constant presence in my family's life since I was a baby, and I know that he will never see me in a romantic light.
Our first mate didn't even give us a chance, and I fear that our second mate will follow suit. The rejection from our first mate has already taken a toll on us, and if our second mate rejects us as well, we may not survive it.’ I pant at the pain going through our body from the broken bond.
As I sit down, tears streaming down my face, I can't help but feel defeated.
