CHAPTER 31 Gary Spalding looked at his watch; it was 8.30pm another three hours and he would be off duty. It was his day off tomorrow and he had arranged to play golf with two other men from the shift. He hoped his new putter would give him an edge. He was playing the eighteenth in his mind when a doctor in a white coat and with a stethoscope around his neck approached him from the end of the corridor. He sat upright in his chair trying to look alert. As the doctor got closer he could see he was Chinese, of slim build, dark black hair and round rimmed glasses. He stopped in front of the policeman. “Is this Mr Mattherson’s room?” he inquired in a heavy Chinese accent. “Yes sir,” said the constable. “You chaps have been in and out all day, but he’s still unconscious.” The man smiled. “
