CHAPTER 17
The drive back from Macdonald’s had been unnaturally quiet. Grant and Sara were uneasy. Grant swung into the large driveway of the white-fronted house. Emma had been waiting for them and rushed out to greet her friend.
“Hi you,” she said excited and renewing their friendship. “Have a good trip?”
Sara climbed out the car and hugged her.
“Hi dad,” she called to her father who had gone to the boot of the car to get Sara’s case.
“Come on,” said Emma, taking her friend by the hand. “I’ve got loads to show you and lots to talk about.”
Sara looked back at Grant and smiled. He managed a faint smile back and the two girls ran in to the house. Jill was in the kitchen when she heard the excited giggling.
“Hello Mrs Campbell,” said Sara on seeing Jill wiping her hands on her apron. S
