Chapter Two: The Sun

1410 Words
“Aiden Carter. Building a Toy Empire,” the man silently reads a column in the daily newspaper. He’s in his mid-twenties. With his green eyes and blonde hair paired with his stunning physique; he is indeed from the most powerful clan of Alphas. Named after the sun, he shines brightly in both the corporate world and at the eyes of omegas. He fell in love once but to him, that would be his last. After losing Cerulean and the child in his womb in an unfortunate car crash, he’s now afraid of being in the same situation again. He shifted his gaze towards the other tall buildings in front of him. In the far left, the view of the sea and its nearby dock could be seen. He sighed. It reminded him how much Cerelean loves the sea. They used to go on cruises together. It has been a few years since that unfortunate event happened. And here he is now, at the top and building an empire. His loss forced him to be where he is now. But something is still missing. He feels so empty. He heard the door opened. “Mr. Carter,” his secretary called for his attention. He turned his office chair around to face Ella. "You have a meeting with the Design Department in ten minutes.” “What’s the agenda of the said meeting?” Aiden asked as he put the newspaper on his table. “It’s for the presentation of new toys,” Ella explained once she checked her tablet computer. Aiden nodded and then stood up. They started to walk towards the door. “Well, I better be on my way to the conference room,” he announced. His secretary went back to her desk. He started to walk towards the elevator. As soon as he entered the elevator, he was dumbstruck to see a certain poster posted on one of the elevator walls. An ad for plush toys Cerulean himself designed for Aiden and their unborn child. The company stopped reproducing these toys at some point. It was too painful for Aiden to see them. He took the poster, ripped it apart, and threw the pieces of paper on the ground. He quickly stepped out of the elevator once it opened and then traversed the hallway, going to the conference room. The people from the design team are already there. Aiden took his seat. “How many presentations do we have for today?” he asked as he settles on his seat. The manager of the Design Department quickly browsed the paper he’s holding. “Around twenty, Sir,” he answered Aiden and gave his boss a copy of the presentations. “Oh, geez; this will be a long afternoon,” he softly mouthed to himself. “Three minutes. I’ll just give three minutes for each presentation.” “Okay, Sir,” the manager replied. “Shall we start the presentations now, Sir?” “Yes,” Aiden answered as he looks at the first presentation. The first presenter entered and started. “So, what makes them special?” Aiden interrupted the presenter in the middle of explaining the details of the proposed toy. “Looking at the dolls; they look like Barbie dolls. What makes them special and unique from other dolls?” The presenter startled by the sudden questions was out of words to say. Aiden, as always, has his sharp eyes on the designs presented. He was not impressed by them and approved just one or two. “I appreciate the effort but let’s work harder,” Aiden said as he adjourns the meeting. He stood up and exited the conference room. He went straight to the elevator. The pieces of paper he has thrown hours ago has already been cleaned. He returned to his office only to find out that Altair, his stepbrother is there. “What are you doing here?” he asked coldly as he walks towards his desk. ‘Oh, don’t be like that, Aiden,” Altair replied. “I heard you rejected a lot of ideas.” “What else should I do?” Aiden asked. “All of them are boring and just knockoffs.” “That does even matter?” Altaire argued. “You’re in a business; a competition.” “I know, but I’m not here to copy. FunHouse is here to conquer. Now, what really brought you here? It’s unlikely that you visit me here, Altair.” “Impatient as always,” Altair whispered to himself. “Do you remember Richard Blue?” “Richard Blue who?” “Aquila’s fiancé.” “Oh, what about him?” “I’m planning to have a stag party for him,” Altair replied. “Okay. And what do I have to do with that?” “Be there, of course.” “When exactly?” “In two weeks’ time,” Altair replied. “In a cruise ship by the dock. It falls on a Saturday.” Aiden nodded. “I’ll be there,” Aiden confirmed. “Is there something else you wanted to say?” “None really,” Altair replied as he stands up. “Aiden, I know you’re not still over Cerulean’s death—” “Altair, stop,” Aiden choked up. He was caught off guard by Altair suddenly bringing up Cerulean. Aiden doesn’t get the point of this. “Don’t bring him up.” “Aiden, there is no use of getting yourself stuck in the past.” Altaire continued, ignoring Aiden’s plea. “You don’t know anything, Altair!” Aiden shouted at him in pure anger. “Leave at once!” “Aiden—” “Leave!” Aiden shouted again. Altair indeed left. As soon as Altair’s gone, Aiden grabbed a desk decoration and threw it on the floor. It smashed and made the pieces flew in different directions. He then slammed both of his hands on his desk. Altair stepped too far. Cerulean is his life. “How can I just simply forget him?” he asked his self. “I devoted all my time, all my future, all my heart and soul to him.” Feeling down, he started to shed tears. He badly misses him. He turned his chair facing the building and watched the busy scene of the city. He then started to wipe away his tears. “Cerulean, how do could I last one more day without you?” he once again asked his self. He forced his self to calm down and closed his eyes. Cerulean to him was his everything. They met one day in an art exhibition. A certain painting was being sold in an auction. Both of them have shown interest in that certain painting. In the end, Cerulean lost to Aiden. No one can beat the Carters; especially given the fact that they are rich and powerful. Cerulean came also from an elite family but they’re nothing compared to the Carter’s. Later that day, Aiden found Cerulean, who’s devastated for not getting the painting, crying alone in the restroom. Cerulean’s softness hit a spot in Aiden’s heart. He then offered the painting to Cerulean who at first was hesitant but eventually accepted the gift. Aiden is handsome and charming; a trap an omega could easily fall into. And Cerulean did fell… fell in love with Aiden. They cherished each other and called each other their home. They even came to the point where Aiden already marked him, and then they knotted which led Cerulean to conceive a child in his womb. This happiness ended fast and quick though. Cerulean was on his way to meet Aiden to celebrate their third anniversary when Cerulean and their child met their untimely demise. It’s a bad memory Aiden still remembers like it just happened yesterday. To him, Cerulean was his only source of happiness. He was never closed to anyone in his family. After his mother died, his father married another woman who has two children. Altair and Aquila are the names of his stepsiblings. He’s not close with Altair for they see each other as competition. Aquila, on the other hand, is a different case. She played as the motherly figure for Aiden. Aiden felt free and comfortable around Aquila. He often seeks advice from her and is not afraid to speak his mind. Aquila’s also the first to approve Aiden and Cerulean’s relationship.
