Chapter 5 - Kane's POV

The day passed quickly with Alpha Frederick showing them the pack lands and introducing them to some new members. Everything he told Kane appeared to be true so far. After he visits with Alpha Gregor he would decide the fate of this mascarade. His patience was starting to run low, but for now he had to attend a stupid ball of a fortunate wolf who found his mate. He thought he should start to look at women and try to find one who at least can exchange two words with him, instead of giggling like stupid. He knew he was popular with she-wolves , but he hated how they were all crazy about his title and didn't give a da*n about him. He was so frustrated all of a sudden that he felt like he needed to let his wolf out for a run, for him to calm down. But there was no time for that. He had to shower and change into his tuxedo. He was the guest of honor at this party so he had to be somewhat on time. Besides Kane was feeling very hungry and could not wait to grab something to eat. Whatever shady business was going on here, they had delicious food, there was no denying it. And their house smelled amazing. He was enticed in it whenever he would go through the hallways. He remembered his home when he was young, how his mother would make these delicious smell pots with different herbs and oranges or lemons and boiled them for hours to fill the entire floor with the beautiful smell. It was mostly the two of them with his father always wrapped in Alpha business... For a moment he thought how would he manage family life and King duties, at how he would balance them. Only if he would find her... He pushed back those thoughts, and put on his shoes. He looked in the mirror one more time, fixed his rebel hair and decided he was as handsome as he can be. He smelled Roan and opened the door before he could knock.

,, Good evening your Majesty. Someone looks dapper! " he exclaimed with a grin on his face.,, So, ready to mingle? Ready to eat? They have great food, but they don't feed you enough here..."

Kane laughed.,, I am as ready as I will ever be. These crowded events are not my type, but they are my duty... Besides I have to talk with Alpha Tate..."

,, You will have many conversations tonight. We should be able to draw conclusions and solve this once and for all." Roan said.

,, Indeed. I have had enough of these games. Cards on the table. Let's go they are probably waiting for us. "

When they headed down the stairs they saw Martha. She was in a hurry but stopped to bow and exchange a few words with them. She pointed out to them that, at the bottom of the stairs a butler is waiting to lead them to the ballroom. After they parted their ways Kane saw Roan look after her.

,, See something you like? "Kane asked while grinning sheepishly.

,, Yes, as a matter of fact, I would like to know her better. I have been thinking about marriage for quite some time now, but, as you well know, we have few females in our pack, most of them are mated and the rest are very young or we have nothing in common... "Roan confessed.

,, Take the opportunity tonight to get to know her a little bit. If it's OK, then you can court her this week and see where this takes you." Kane suggested.

,, I will do just that. I will be 35 in three months, so maybe this is it for me..." Roan continued.

Kane didn't have a chance to say anything else because they were greeted by Alpha Frederick and Luna Gabriella. It was showtime. As they descended the stairs into the lavish ballroom, Kane in front followed by Roan along with the Atkens in tow, all the guests were clapping and raising their glasses in Kane's honor. He would pass indifferently by them, his face blank, showing no emotions, not even a smile. He took the stage and addressed them.

,, Good evening. It is an honor to witness such a joyous event, one disposed of by the Moon Goddess. The mating of two wolves. I wish them a life long of happiness. Thank you for the hospitality you have shown me, it is a pleasure to be here among such loyal and hard-working friends. May we keep the peace for many years to come! " Kane lifted his glass and smiled briefly as he ended his speech. They cheered and the Alphas present at the party came to greet him and shake his hand.

The happy couple said a few words, Kane heard his name a few times, lifted his glass and finally watched them dance. The agony of the happiness all around was over. It meant that in less than half an hour they would sit down and finally eat.

He was chatting with Roan and Alpha Darren of the Clawed Wolf Pack when Alpha Tate arrived arm in arm with the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. It was as if time had stopped. Everybody was looking at her. She was radiant and Kane couldn't take his eyes off of her. Suddenly he felt Lord become anxious and try to surface.,, Mate!! " he shouted.,, That is our mate!!" and then he felt that enticing smell again, freesias and lilies-of-the-valley. It was then when her gaze met his. It was then when she realized that they were mates. Her lips parted and he could feel her heartbeat accelerate, but....,, What the he*l is she doing with Tate?? I want to rip him off for touching our mate!!! " Lord screamed and wanted to come out, but Kane was a master at controlling his wolf and didn't want to make a spectacle of this. By now Alpha Frederick was greeting them. In a few moves Kane was by her side. When she saw him, she let go of Tate's arm, causing him to flinch a little.

,, Your Majesty. What an honor to meet you here!" Alpha Tate exclaimed while bowing his head.

With the last drops of control he had left, Kane shook his hand then turned to face his mate. Her heart was beating fast, she was angry about something.

Alpha Frederick cleared his throat.,, Your Majesty, this is my youngest offspring, my daughter Madeline. My darling, this is our bellowed King Kane. " he said.

She bowed her head and Kane kissed her hand.,, She is also my mate Alpha Frederick." he said in a grave Alpha tone not losing her gaze. She was shaking and Kane felt as if she was going to make a run for it. He placed a kiss on her forehead then placed an arm around her waist.,, Relax sweetheart, you will be fine, just breathe." he whispered in her ear. She tried to remove herself from his grip, but there was no chance she could do it. Not now that he found her.

,, I will have a word with you Frederick in your office. Now. Wait for me there." Kane commanded. Alpha Frederick immediately left in that direction and next, Kane targeted Alpha Tate who was at a loss for words.,, I will accept the fact that you did not know Madeline was my mate, but if you touch her one more time, I will not be responsible for my or my wolf's actions. " he said. His eyes had already changed to black and his tone was serious. It was enough to make Alpha Tate apologize and retire from their presence. After he left, he found his mate looking at him.

,, Are you always this rude?" she asked, defying him with her eyes. The band started to play a piano and violin slow song. Kane pulled her into a dance. At first, she seemed like she was going to push him away, but instead, she followed his lead.

,, To answer your question, I am never rude. I speak my mind and take care of what is mine. I reward the obedient and punish the rebels. " he said.

Madeline opened her mouth to protest, but he locked her lips in the most wonderful kiss.
