“Amaya is a curious pup,” Milo says, relaxing his tense body and coming closer to grab the sleeping baby from Amaya’s arms. He sits down by her feet, leaning his back against the log. Gabriel takes a little longer to warm up to the idea of me, but he walks to the other side of Milo and sits on the ground as well, kissing his boyfriend’s cheek right away, “And I am too. Tell us about your ex-mate.” “Alright, but I might start crying at some point,” I warn them. Milo waves it off and Amaya just gives me an encouraging smile. “My father used to be the Alpha of Garibaldi. He had a program for orphan children, and he always took me and my b***h of a sister there, to play with the other kids. My mother is a snobby cunt, she hated that we spent time with the orphans, but I loved going because there was this boy. Just over a year older than me, dark thick hair, fair skin, blue eyes… he was the tallest and strongest boy there. My dad called him a born warrior and I had the biggest crush on him, since day one.” I recall. Milo makes an ‘aww’ sound, but Amaya slaps his chest gently. “We hate him. He’s the villain,” she reminds him, then turns to me, “Continue.” “My mother never allowed us to be part of the training program with the orphans, but Cain always found ways to sneak around and go talk to me. Only me, not my sister. That ate her up inside,” I murmur, making a face. Knowing her, she’s been plotting this hostile takeover since that moment, ten years ago. “Cain became my dad’s favorite. As soon as he turned seventeen, he offered him a position as a guard in our home. Then it was easier for us to see each other. There were always people around our house and my sister was extremely annoying, so I started sneaking him inside my bedroom.” Amaya makes an excited sound before reminding herself of the same thing she reminded Milo. And stops. “He gave me my first kiss there and told me how he liked me since the beginning. I said it back, but we thought there was no way we could ever be together for real. I thought my dad would not want me dating anyone at sixteen. Cain thought my mother would never agree to him, an orphan, dating her daughter. So we would just kiss and touch in secret for a while… until I turned eighteen and my wolf woke up. The fated bond snapped between us with force,” I say, smiling with sadness when I remember it. I used to think that was the greatest moment of my life… and now it just makes me think how I was deceived and conned by the Moon Goddess herself, “He f****d my brains out that same night. It was amazing.” “Oh.” the quiet boyfriend lets out in shock, like he wasn’t expecting such a potty mouth from a Luna, “Sorry.” “Don’t be, she’s cool,” Milo says, then urges me to continue, “Does he have a big d**k?” Gabriel chokes again, but me and Amaya laugh. “Oh, yes. Even at seventeen,” I respond, “The next morning, we ran to my dad and told him about our bond, knowing there was no way he could object. And he didn’t, he was very happy for us. My sister and my mother were very sour about it, though. But even then, I didn’t care.” I have a flashback of Rhea hearing the news about our bond. Even in the midst of joy, I noticed her bitterness and thought it was weird that my own sister wasn’t excited for me. Then she said, ‘I bet I’ll find my own fated mate soon too’ and I agreed, but, of course, that never happened. She never found a mate, so she just stole mine. I clear my throat and blink a lot to stop the tears from forming. “My daddy got us our first home, a quaint little house very close to theirs. We lived there for around four years, Cain was still working for my father. He became his best warrior,” I continue, letting out a sad smile. That house was tiny, but we spent our best years there. With very little responsibilities, we had all the time in the world to just love each other, “Then, three years ago… my dad had heart failure. He died and left no successor, only two daughters. Every man in our pack had the right to fight for the title of Alpha and prove himself. Cain didn’t want to even try because he’s always been a huge Negative Nancy. He thought he had no chance at all, but I pushed and pushed him for weeks, I regurgitated everything I had learned from my father and forced him to fight for the title. Of course, he won, became the Alpha, and we’ve been growing our pack together. For three years, everything has been perfection. But… apparently, he’s been interested in my sister this whole time. He’s been in cahoots with her since our last birthday, six months ago. And he impregnated her three months ago. One week ago, I left for a girls’ trip with my friends and everything was the same. Then, yesterday I came home and found Cain dry-f*****g my sister against my beloved greenhouse. I have tomatoes growing in there, dude… tomatoes that I grew myself! They were about to f**k in front of my tomatoes, can you believe that? So he comes yelling at me that I’ve done enough damage, that I’m crazy, that I have to stay away from them. He banished me just like that. Told guards to take me out. And that’s why I’m here.” When I’m done, I wipe the angry tears that spilled out of me and look at the peculiar couple I just met. They’re all looking at me with compassion and a little pity, even the quiet boyfriend. Even the baby, it seems. “That sucks a lot, Luna Arielle,” Amaya says and grabs my hand, “I’m really sorry he turned out to be a piece of s**t. It always hurts more when they were good at one point, right?” Right. If he’d been a terrible husband, this wouldn’t hurt this bad. If he’d ever given me a hint of his true nature, I would just be able to move on. But he played me so well, there’s a part of my brain that is still refusing to accept this is actually happening. “Look, we’re rogues, we have no pack and we travel around in our van. Right now, we’re passing by and chose this spot to hang out by the river, but we’re leaving. We’re going north, so we can drop you off if you have somewhere safe to stay, but if you don’t… well, you’re welcome to be a rogue with us.” I blink. Never, ever in my life have I considered being a rogue. It goes against everything I’ve ever known. “You’d take me in?” I ask, looking at the two guys. Milo nods right away, Gabriel does it a few seconds later, “Wow. Okay… I’m in.”
