Cecilia's wolf went into the large changing booth to shift back and put on clothes. Don and Cheryl walked towards Beta Tony with great expectations in their eyes. He must have noticed because he turned around and left towards his car. I frowned. I was hoping he would stay and watch me at least for a little while. Cecilia emerged with a smile from ear to ear scanning the area. She spotted her parents walking and she ran towards them. She noticed Beta Tony walk away and quickly called out to him.
"BETA TONY!"
Cecilia's parents stopped in their tracks as he turned around. Cecilia's and his eyes met and I couldn't help but hold my breath. "Yes?!" he said questioning her. Cecilia's face fell and she seemed to be lost for words.
"I uh.. I wanted to know what you thought about my test?" She stammered.
"You did great, congratulations." He replied emotionless, formally shaking her hand.
Relieved, I let out my breath. He is not her mate. I hate to admit it, but I am glad he is not.
"Jessie!" Trainer Argon called out to me. "You're starting in 10 minutes." He said.
"Okay thanks." forgetting about Cecilia and her drama, I made my way over to Jill and Katie. "Alright guys, it's my turn."
"You got this girl!" Jill said.
"We'll be cheering you on." Katie said enthusiastically.
"Thank you." I said with a half smile. On my way to the starting line, I looked over to see my parents. I see my grandparents also made it here to watch me today. I smiled and waved at them. My dad gave me an encouraging smile and two thumbs up. I took a few deep breaths and tightened my ponytail once more. The whistle blew and I started running, blocking out the noisy crowd and focusing on the task in front of me. I ran towards the hurdles and jumped over one. I kept running and jumped over the next. There were seven in total and the last one was higher than the others. I sprinted towards it and just like in the training, I jumped up with my arms up in the air diving over it and once I touched the ground, rolled forward smoothly. In one swift movement, I was back on my feet running towards the ropes. I wonder if Beta Tony is watching... I let my thoughts trail off. I couldn't help but feel happy about that awkward encounter that just happened between him and Cecilia. What was she thinking?
Before I knew it, I did a double backflip and landed on my two feet firmly on the ground. I had completed the 2nd task. I made my way towards the pole standing 20 feet tall with a flag at the top flowing in the wind. I grabbed a piece of torn fabric that was placed on the ground and jolted myself up the pole. I felt my feet slipping but did not let that discourage me. I focused on the purple flag above me and took one breath after another. Just a little more and I'm there. The flag is almost within arms reach. I joisted myself up to the top, wrapped my legs around the pole and held on with one hand while removing the flag with the other. I waved the flag in the air for people to see it from afar. I then placed it back on the pole and slid my way down hanging on with my whole body. No doubt I'll get some scrapes and bruises from this, but luckily werewolves heal quickly. Now the fun part begins. I felt my wolf get excited as I ran towards the hoops. I blocked out my surroundings once more, the noise, the tension between Cecilia and I and thoughts of Beta Tony...
I sprinted as fast as I could and jumped up in the air, shifted into my wolf as I spiraled through the hoops and my paws landed softly on the ground. This was the best feeling in the world. I heard loud applause coming across the field but kept going towards the forest.
