Scent of Blood

The crowd was gathered in the school ground and all senior year students were in the gowns and heads. Parents were sitting on the chairs in front of the stage and the principal of Southdale High was at the stage with the chancellor. It was the day of convocation for the graduates of the senior year including Elizabeth, Christian, Kevin, and Alice.

“Good evening, everyone, and welcome to the 70th convocation ceremony of Southdale High” – he announced in the mic.

Everyone started clapping and cherishing their kids.

“I would like to congratulate the students and their families on their high school graduation.” – he added

The principal gave a short speech and then all graduates came to stage one by one.

“Elizabeth Young” – the Chancellor announced

Elizabeth excitedly smiled and ran towards the stage to receive the medal and the degree. Her father and mother were so proudly looking at her and clapping. She looked at them and then looked at Christian.

“So, what’s the plan now?” – Christian asked Elizabeth

They were walking towards the exit door where her parents were waiting for her outside their car.

“Mom and Dad want me to head towards London” – she replied

“Why?” – he asked curiously

“They want me to leave the US” – she coldly replied

“So, what’s wrong in it” – he asked curiously

“Are you serious Chris? I mean, how can I leave Southdale, my parents, friends…how can I leave you?” – she looked at him and said disappointedly

“Come on Liza…. it’s about only a few years and then you can come back” – He tried to convince her.

“No, it’s not that easy …once I left then there’s no way coming back” – she replied

“Weird” – he said and kicked a stone

“No…. No …No! this isn’t weird…. let me tell you the weirdest thing…they want me to leave before my eighteenth birthday…I mean…what’s the point in it? – she taunted

“Hang on, my dad is calling” – he interrupted while looking at his phone’s screen

“Yes Dad” – he said while receiving the call.

“Come to the Southdale river…now! Two kids had been attacked and killed in the woods…and I think, they came back” – his dad told him

Christian’s face got paled and he hung up. He hurriedly put his phone in his bag.

“What happened?” – Elizabeth asked curiously

“I gotta go…Emergency” – he replied and ran towards his jeep

“Christian…Christian …Chris…” – she screamed and ran behind him but he quickly started the engine and disappeared

The police, the mayor, the doctor’s panel, and the Coopers were standing in front of the place of incidence. Christian had his father Christopher Cooper, his mother Georgia Cooper, a brother Alaric Cooper, and a sister Quinn Cooper. They were all standing there and waiting for Christian. He saw them anxiously and then ran towards them,

“Hey everyone…I’m sorry…. I’m a little late…what’s going on?” – he asked curiously

“Look on your own” – Quinn replied

Christian hurriedly looked at the victim's dead body shockingly and then the area of incidence.

“They are back, Brother” – Alaric said

“The Hybrids” – he added

“What? How could that be? I heard that witches’ family moved from here and their generations were ended after the third witch when she performed suicide 17 years ago.” – Christian replied

“This place is not in the territory of Southdale…son…but why they are back near here…we need to find out” – his father said

“Maybe the curse breaker still exists…Maybe the generation hasn’t finished. Maybe they are back because they know that.” – His mother added

“But how, the last witch of The Jennings family never married.” – Christian said

“But maybe she got pregnant” – Georgia replied

“So, I think we should find her.” – Sheriff said

“And do what? Kill her?” – The mayor asked

“We will think about it” – Christopher replied

“Ok… Sheriff, I want all the records of the Jennings family… Mr. Cooper, we need you to protect the borders of Southdale and we will make sure that nobody would cross the boundaries of the town as it is dangerous to go outside for humans…. As long as, the curse isn’t broken, they cannot kill vampires nor werewolves…so you guys are safe.” – the mayor instructed everyone.

“But we are only five and they are twenty…since we don’t feed human’s blood…we are not strong enough to fight against them…. they can’t kill us but until when?  we don’t even know that the curse breaker is eighteenth yet or not.” – Quinn replied

“Call vampires back in town” – Sheriff said

“No…I don’t think so…it’s a good idea…they live in forests far far away from here…They can’t control themselves for the thirst of blood by living among humans.” – Alaric replied

“I agree with Alaric …. Locals of the town don’t even know that the Coopers are vampires” – Sheriff Steele added

“Keep them away from the town…in the woods…we need them” – the mayor added

“But why are we supposed to protect humans?” – Quinn exhausted

“We are not protecting humans we are protecting ourselves by protecting them” – Christopher screamed at Quinn

“Once the curse is broken…. The hybrids will be strong enough to kill every single vampire in the world and suck every single drop of human blood. This time, they would be 100 times more powerful than us.” – Georgia told politely to Quinn.

“They will either kill us or convert werewolves into one of them…. They will team up with werewolves and then you know already what could happen else.” – Alaric added

“How the curse will break?” – Quinn asked

“Thousand years ago … The time when Southdale’s roads were floating with blood everywhere. Then the strongest witch of the time, Maleficent Jennings created a spell to curse the hybrids which can only be broken with the heart of the curse breaker.” – Christopher told her

“But who is the curse breaker?” – she asked

“The fourth generation’s witch of The Jennings family…. The grand granddaughter of Maleficent Jennings.” – Georgia replied

“When she will turn eighteen…. The hybrids will get the access to enter the town and they can undo the spell on the night of wolf moon…which comes every year in January” – Christopher added

 “But the Jennings doesn’t exist. Glinda was my best friend twenty years ago…She killed herself….and finished the generation of Jennings.” – Quinn added

“We know that but still there’s something which we are missing.” – Christian said

“Alexander Petrova” – Christopher added

“Who is he?” – Alaric asked

“You three are only 130 years old…. that’s why you didn’t experience hybrids. Your mom and I saw him…. fought against him…He is the alpha of all hybrids…The wildest…The strongest…the cruelest. He is the founder of hybrids and now he is back to break the curse and become thousand times more powerful.” – Christopher replied.

The next day, the whole town was worried about the news roaming around in the town.

“Two teenagers found dead in the woods near the river by an animal attack” – Elizabeth read the newspaper interestingly

“Give it to me” – her father snatched the newspaper.

“Citizens are restricted to leave the territory of Southdale until government’s next orders…Avoid roaming inside the forest and quiet places alone.” – he read.

“What the hell? What’s going on?” – Elizabeth asked

“Pack your things ASAP…we are heading to the city; I’m booking your ticket to London” – He instructed her

“...Jenna, call your sister in London that Liza is coming to her place urgently.” – He instructed her mother and stood up from the chair hurriedly and ran upstairs.

“What’s going on Dad…It was just an animal attack. You cannot use this as an excuse against me.” – she screamed

“Honey, your dad is right…. this town is not safe anymore…You are our only daughter and We don’t want to lose you” – her mother cupped her face and cried

“Mom…Relax, the animal is not behind me…It was an accident...Why you guys want to cage me” – she screamed and put her mother’s hands-off from her face and ran outside.

 “Liza…Liza …come back…Don’t go” – her mom shouted and cried but she didn’t stop.

She took out her bicycle and headed to the Christian’s place which was a little far from the population. She was riding too fast and tears were falling on her face. She wanted to escape her house so that her father won’t bring her out of the town. She reached near to Christian’s place and he was cleaning his jeep outside and his parents were standing next to him as they were going somewhere.

“Christian” – she screamed while riding towards him

“Liza? What are you doing here?” – Christian replied

“I... Aah” – she was about to say something but her bicycle imbalanced by a stone and she fell.

Christian ran and reached near her within a second like a flash. He helped her standing but her hand got injured and started bleeding. He saw the blood on her hand and his eyes went wide and red and his jaw dropped, Elizabeth saw that and a rapid fearful expression appeared on her face, he was about to suck her hand but his father, Christopher reached on time and pushed him harder away from her.

“Liza, run!” – Christopher said while looking into her eyes.

She stood up and ran as fast as she could. Christopher ran towards Christian and stopped him to follow her. He was uncontrollable and in a state of oblivion but Christopher managed to get him back.

“Christian…. Don’t forget who you are.” – his father said

“Remember that…you love her and you will never hurt her.” – he added while cupping his face.

Christian got back to normal and saw her running fast. His wild expressions changed into regretful and he sighed.

“Oh, Liza…What have I done to you” – he cried and sat on the floor.

“Come on…get in the house…. Now” – Christopher said.

And then they all moved fast like a flash in the house.
