She arrived and Raya and Cecilia is cooking dinner. They ask her, “Are you eating ?” Odessa scream yes please. Afterwards they ate spaghetti and beans with cold Pepsi—steam rising hot, Pepsi fizz sharp on tongue. After eating, Raya was like, “Fill me in on what happened at that party cause you were no where to be found.” Odessa goes, “Hmmmmm...” Cecilia was like, “f**k, she got laid.” Odessa stares like she just saw an angel. “Don’t stare at me like that. Not because I didn’t go meaning I’m saint. Is just party is not my thing... and I know game tho.” “Wow,” Odessa exclaimed. “Yeah I did get laid... but is complicated.” “How complicated?” Raya asked. “Oh wait,” she said. “He has girlfriend or something?” “Nahhhh.” Odessa sigh. “What? Tell us,” Cecilia said with calm voice. “Oh ok. I’m gay.” “Yeah you have it,” . “And I hooked up with a woman. And that’s all I can provide for now.” “Damn. Now I owe Cecilia 2k.” “Why is that?” “We both betted whether you’re gay or not. And I said you are bi, but Cecilia said gay.” “Oh,” Odessa said. “Is so obvious btw. Raya I know but...” “Cecilia: No but. She is gay, end of discussion.” They both went, “So you won’t tell us about the hook up? Who and where?” Odessa went nope. “I want to go freshing up. And boundaries girls. I’m serious tho.” After bathing, she got a text from unknown number: *Come out.* She read it and immediately think is Henry. She went outside and saw Sophie sitting on her vehicle, looking so cool—streetlight catching her caramel glow. Immediately she saw her, she turn to go inside. Sophie ran after her. “Ok, I shouldn’t have threatened you. That was so cliche... and I’m sorry.” “Even though you’re my lecturer.” Sophie was like, “And so?” “Oh my God,” Odessa screamed. “Get inside the car first. We can talk about it at home.” “Where is home?” she asked. “My house, silly.” “Nope. Ain’t going anywhere.” “Ok fine. I miss you, Odessa. And I can’t stop thinking about you. So yeah, I said it. Are you happy?” “Why will I be?” she asked. “Ok I get it, but don’t play hard to get.” “I’m not.” “Then get inside the car.” She got inside. They drove off to Sophie house—not knowing Sophie have arranged the house: candle light flickering soft, roses scattered petals red on table, food smells wafting warm—jollof steam, plantain crisp. She said, “After you, my lady.” Odessa sat, while still trying to process the most romantic thing she is witnessing—candles dancing shadows on walls, Sophie's smile soft. “Ok, let’s do proper meet up and date, if you don’t mind. And about people finding out? Is shouldn’t be a problem cause I have always wanted to transfer. And if this is worth it, I don’t mind doing it... and we can be ourselves.” Odessa kissed her immediately and said, “Ok, I’m liking this. So tell me about you... and don’t be mysterious. Is fun while it lasted.” “Ok. My name is Sophie Adekunle, and I’m Yoruba, and only child. And I was married but I got divorced... and now I own a cat.” “Only? Like how old are you? Not like is matter,” Odessa asked. Sophie laughed and said, “I’m thirty…….. two.” “Wow, that’s cool,” Odessa replied. “Well, your turn now.” “Oh, I’m Odessa Ayo Chisom Johnson. Yes, my mom is Yoruba and dad is Igbo. And I’m 18, and I’m studying psychology—as you can see. And you happen to be my teacher,” in a sarcastic manner. “And I love female version of Justin Bieber. And I have two step brothers and one sister, and my mom is late. And that’s all for now.” “Ok cool. So last born... or first born?” “Nope, I’m the middle child.” “Can we eat this food or not? Even tho I just finished eating.” “Best food combo ever?” “What’s that?” “Beans and spaghetti.” “Wtf,” Sophie said in a concerned manner. “Is delicious, trust me.” “Ah ah ah, I’m not trying that shit.” “Well for this, you will be eating it.” “No I will not be eating it.” “Yea you will be eating it.” “Fine,” Sophie said. “Come over here first.” And they both started making out—slow at first, candles warming skin. Afterwards they ate their food and started binge watching Modern Family till morning—laughs mixing with cuddles, legs tangled lazy.
