Chapter 18 COLFAX Disguising himself was easy enough. Colfax just acted like he belonged. The Isle harbored people of all colors and shapes and sizes; he noticed that immediately. Usually, his golden-brown hair drew attention. Now, it was a muted detail no one noticed. Despite his instincts screaming at him to avoid people’s eyes and to shrink into the surroundings, he forced himself to engage. Newness bred curiosity, created suspicion, especially in an insulated community. He allowed himself to soak in it, for now, discomfort aside. The sooner the people became accustomed to his face and his presence, the sooner he’d become invisible to them. The sooner he wove himself into their lives, the easier his job would be. He made light conversation with shop vendors as he devoured a fried fish
