Ace put his arm around my shoulders, drawing me closer. Looking up, I had a moment to prepare before he gave me a very brief, firm, and sweet kiss.
As he pulled back, I found my arms had instinctively wrapped around his middle.
Staring into his eyes, I couldn't discern his thoughts, and something about his expression felt unsettling.
I momentarily forgot about the onlookers and tried to understand the strange feeling his look evoked within me.
"Are you alright?" I whispered, concern evident in my voice.
"No," he responded, his emotions raw and evident.
"Ace," I began, searching for the right words to comfort him, but they eluded me.
His hand gently squeezed my neck as he muttered, "Totally missed out."
