Serena kept her head bowed like a proper maid while Somaya scanned through them, assigning each their work posts for the day in preparation for the celebration.
Somaya had already selected two maids. Serena crossed her fingers beneath her sleeves, silently praying the third would be her, and to her luck…
“You,” Somaya said pointing at her “The King’s chambers. Now.”
Serena released a quiet breath of relief and walked confidently toward Kaelen’s chambers, careful not to show how fast her heart was pounding.
The rest of the maids exchanged uneasy glances. None of them looked excited about working in the King’s chambers.
