* Layla POV *
The Darkness made me feel numb for a while, except this burning pain in my chest and face. I could hear some muffled voices. They sounded sweet and kind. It's hard to tell when it sounds like there are pillows on your ears.
The world came into focus quickly, parts of my body began to throb like it did before the darkness, but just like that it turned into a dull pain.
My body started to move on autopilot, I felt a sense of urgency.
A growl ripped through my lips into the room.
I growl?
Ripping cords and blankets off my body I stand against one wall away from the people who surrounded me moments before.
A tray that was knocked over caught my attention for a brief moment when my head turned to it. A blurry image of me, with dark and angry marks all over my body.
I will never forget what those are from.
Finally in control of my body I look towards the group before the doors to the room burst open.
"Drake?" I looked him up and down, it looked like Drake. Looking at a man who stepped in with him I hear Calista whisper to me.
Mate.
Thankfully Drake responds like everything is normal. "Your scaring my Mom Layla. She was trying to help you." His chuckle vibrates the air ever so slightly.
Making my way to Drake, Calista talks to me again.
It was an accident, I couldn't finish healing you until the silver was out of your body, I put all my effort into it. It was overwhelming and I took control.
Control? I ask.
I am your wolf Layla.
Choosing to not respond to her I look at Drake.
"I didn't mean to scare anyone, I woke up unsure of what was going on." Giving him a hug helped convince me this was reality. A heavy wave of panic washed over me being around these strangers.
Asking the first thing on my mind I gasp, "What day is it?"
"Thursday I guess." I can ask for a computer to catch up on work as an excuse to leave.
"It's also really late." The man behind talks for the first time making me jump. His voice sounded off, like he was trying to sound different. "Let the Doctor check on you before leaving."
His voice sent goosebumps over my skin, reminding me of the fact I am naked right now.
"Oh okay." Was all I managed to say.
I was led into another room by a woman who said to just call her Mom, except at the hospital she usually just goes by Mrs. Pine or Doctor.
After I get washed up and into a simple grey sundress with a long trench coat, Mom paused before grabbing shoes from a bag.
"What is your wolfs name?"
I was sitting on bed looking at her like she had 3 heads.
"What did you ask me?" My voice shook.
"I'm sorry if that too much for me to ask." She walks over and grabs my hands. "You don't have to tell me her name if you don't feel comfortable telling me sweetie."
She sounded sincere, I kept quiet for a minute, right when I started to talk she completely gave me her attention.
"Calista. Her name is... Calista." I start to break down, my chest feeling heavy. "She only just said she was a wolf.... For years I've heard her, I thought I was going crazy...." Taking a moment to calm my shaking breath, I continue on. "Those men said it too, one man was a wolf before a person."
After a few minutes of rambling she calmed me down and helped explain that our wolf half is a part of us. There is what's called a Pack, and the ranks of the pack. She was the last Luna, but right now there is no Luna.
She explained what I was capable of and the different things she could teach me to help me understand it better.
Last thing we are talking about is a mate.
"Yes, a mate." She chuckles and moves some of my hair out of my face. "I can tell you a lot about mates, but it's best to experience that on your own. If that doesn't make you comfortable not knowing I'm sure Naomi could explain that for you without issue."
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.
"Is there a problem in there?" Drake knocked on the door. "Police Open Up!" He rapped against the door a little.
There was no other way to describe the interaction between Drake and his mom other than a kid getting caught taking the whole cookie jar off the counter.
In the end he got a slap across the forehead for not behaving himself in her work, and we left the hospital to a mansion they called home.
"Just follow me up to the third floor." Drake guided me through the house, the walls being a off white and deep blue carpet floors. He guided me to my room letting me know he stayed in the room across the hall.
Naomi's name was written all over the room, from the closet of clothes to the luxury bath products in the bathroom. The room had a small kitchenette with a envelope on the counter.
Reading the note my breath caught for a second.
Layla,
Hope you enjoy your room, I know you don't treat yourself so I did it for you.
I had them add in the kitchenette for your late night movie snacks you like to make and it's been stocked with your staples.
Down the hall is where I stay, Drake will be more accessible if you need anything.
- Naomi
PS. Don't hesitate to let someone know if you need help in any way.
This was more like a big apartment. It seemed rather lonely here. Looking back at the bed that was too big for a small girl like me I see a door on the same wall. I already found the bathroom and closet, Maybe it was a linen closet.
Getting closer to the room I smell oranges and eucalyptus.
My nose tingled from the scent, it grew stronger the closer I came to the door.
Opening the door I find an even bigger room with beautiful redwood furniture that fit the dark blue curtains and grey walls. Stepping in farther I find a similar kitchenette, definitely more superior to my rooms.
My chest started to vibrate as Calista purred inside my head.
What is up with you? I chuckle, the smell is comforting and refreshing.
It's our mate. She purred.
I turn around to leave the room freezing in my tracks.
"Layla? Why are you in my room?"
