* Barrett POV * Approaching the mountain side, my men were on edge. We didn't know what exactly to expect. All of my warriors volunteered to ambush the camp. They knew all the details that we did going in. "They are up ahead, the scouts are in position." Drake, my Beta, informed me. "When it's dark we go in, no need to go stealthy when it's time." Grumbling I turn to go sit dismissing the men to lay low for a few hours. * 4 Weeks Ago * "Seven years ago Naomi and I became friends with a young Lady named Layla Twist. I thought she was a werewolf, but she is human." Drake started to explain the situation to me about his friend being taken. We do believe it has to do with the rogue issue we have been facing, Drake didn't react well with the thought. By the end of the meeting, the elders left the pack, except Gramps, he lives here. "I am going to go on a patrol." Drake grumbled as he left my office, leaving me with Naomi. "He is very uptight, he would be acting the same if you went missing Naomi." I gather my papers on the desk wanting to bring them to my room. "I would dissown him if he didn't." She snorted crossing her legs and leaning back on the sofa. "How do I help her?" Looking up I see Naomis eyes looking back into mine. Her eyes were puffy but no tears evident on her cheeks. "Well what have you done already?" I push the papers in my bag and walk around my desk to lean on the front of it. "Checked her house then told you." She threw her head back sighing. I scrub my chin trying to figure out how to comfort her. Naomi and I have been friends for 21 years, she was like a sister. Even though we spend a lot of time around each other, I have no idea how to comfort a girl. Tell her how she can help in the meantime. My wolf Po suggested to me. What does that even mean? All we can do is wait for information and plan thorough patrols. I grumble to him. I don't speak Girl. You need to figure it out if you want a mate. He teased. Say to care for family and be involved. Walking over to sit next to her, I take a breathe hoping I don't sound like an i***t. "Go play with your daughter if she is awake." My voice sounds rough no matter how hard I try. She started to raise her arms and arch her brows in protest. Before she could start I cut in. "We have to wait for the scouts that were informed about the situation. I will be going over everything again tonight, but right now your daughter could have some time with Mom." Standing up she made her way to the door. "Keep me in the loop?" Naomi asked looking back. "Always sister, I will let you in on any meetings." I nodded. She left my office leaving me to grab my things and make my way to my room. My room was too big, it was the Alpha's room, but intended to be for the Alpha and his Luna. The combination of dark grey walls and long navy blue curtains went well with the rosewood furniture. I kept my room mostly neat, I deep clean every 2 months if I can. How does Drake think Layla was a werewolf when she is a human? Po questioned. "Maybe another wolf passed through the territory before she got there. He was on his way to the office." I say out loud, I prefer to talk out loud to Po in my room, more natural. I drop my bag off on a chair by the door, walking over to the bed I fall back onto the mattress looking at the ceiling. "Is she his mate?" Po growled lowly in my head causing my chest to vibrate a little. I clear my throat before he finally responds. He would have know when he met her. There is no way he have left her unmarked. Almost as if he was going to take control, Po kept pacing with energy. She must have smelled like one, but then she wouldn't be passing as a human. Even Naomi and Brielle seemed to have agreed along with him. "Brielle agreed?" I was shocked, never did Naomi's eyes go to gold during the meeting. If she was giving input on the matter to Po, I had no idea. "What did she say?" Standing up from the bed I walk to the bathroom turning on the shower. Placing my clothes in the hamper I step into the hot water listening to Po describe Brielle's point of view. The next couple of days I gather as much information as I could find, only adding to my frustration. Rogues threatening my pack, taking people without any right to. People in the law firm I'm the CEO of knew of Layla, they said Drake and Naomi would invite Layla to lunch and dinner often. They must have been good friends. I wonder why they never mentioned her before. With very little information I was determined to find the rogues still. Nothing I did helped with the urgent feeling to find them.
