"Why did you come home at dawn, young lady!" my aunt scolded as soon as I stepped inside the house.
"I just hung out with Kai and we ended up watching movies at his house. I didn’t notice the time, and I slept over," I explained after greeting her with a respectful gesture. I couldn’t tell her the real story.
"You should’ve answered my calls," she said seriously. I knew she was just worried.
"Sorry, Auntie, my phone died last night, that's why I couldn't call," I lied.
"Alright, go to your room and clean yourself up." I nodded, smiled at her, and hurried to my room to shower and change.
While taking a bath, I saw the marks on my body in the mirror—marks I knew were from last night.
"This can't happen," I told myself as my mind suddenly conjured images of his strong body.
I just sang loudly to drown out the thoughts.
I could still feel the soreness as I changed into fresh clothes. I had been planning to find a summer job to pass the time before the next semester started. But then I thought, since I know how to bake, why not start a small baking business instead?
I went downstairs and saw my aunt setting the table for breakfast.
"Oh, you're here. Come, let’s eat," she said. I helped her set the table, and we ate together. After eating, I washed the dishes while Auntie went to check on her rental properties.
Once I finished cleaning, I went back to my room. Since I had nothing else to do, I decided to go to the supermarket to buy baking supplies.
I changed clothes to look presentable. While preparing my things, my phone rang. It was Kai.
"What do you want?" I asked while gathering my things.
"It’s boring at home. Want to go to the mall?"
"I'll pass. I'm heading to the market."
"What for?"
"Buying ingredients for baking."
"I’ll come with you! Let’s stop by the mall first, then head to the market!" Kai said excitedly. I thought about it and agreed to meet him at the mall since I had no other plans.
I texted my aunt that I was going out, so she wouldn't worry and would know where I was going.
I rode a tricycle to the mall. When I arrived, I immediately saw Kai waiting at the entrance. I walked toward him, and he beamed when he saw me.
"Don’t you want to meet my older brother? You never know, he might be the one," he suddenly said as we entered the mall.
"Kai, you know I'm not ready for that. I don't want to get hurt again," I said seriously.
"Come on, not everyone is like your cheating ex."
"No, I’m done. When I say no, it’s NO. End of discussion," I firmly said. Kai went quiet, seemingly deep in thought.
We wandered around the mall for a bit, then headed to the market to buy the ingredients for my cupcakes. Afterward, Kai drove me home.
Now, I’m in the kitchen, while my aunt hasn't returned yet. It’s only 4:37 PM; she said she’d be home around 5:30 PM.
I prepared all the ingredients so I'd be ready for tomorrow. Kai had already ordered a box of cupcakes—six pieces.
After prepping everything, I cooked dinner. It was perfect timing because Auntie arrived just as I finished. We ate together, and afterward, I went up to my room and posted about my baking business on my laptop.
I was surprised to see a lot of comments and orders for cupcakes for tomorrow. I was so happy! Because of that, I decided to sleep early so I could wake up early to bake.
