I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock. It was 4:00 AM—perfect timing.
I changed quickly and went downstairs to start baking.
It took me about an hour to finish. After that, I cooked breakfast for Auntie and me.
"Tita, breakfast is ready," I called when I saw her coming down the stairs.
"Alright, set the table so we can eat. I have an appointment today," she said as she sat down.
I set the table, and we ate together. Afterward, Auntie left for her appointment.
I packed the cupcakes for delivery. I first delivered the ones ordered by our neighbors. Then, I hailed a taxi to the subdivision where Kai lived.
When we arrived, the driver drove me inside since the guard recognized me from previous visits.
Looking out the window, I couldn't help but notice how big and luxurious the houses were. It wasn’t surprising, considering Kai’s family was one of the wealthiest in the country. We met back in college when we both took up education. He had told me before that he had an older brother now running their company after their father retired.
"Ma'am, we're here," the driver said, pulling me out of my thoughts. I smiled, paid the fare, and got out with the cupcakes.
As I approached the gate, the guard opened it and said Kai was inside. I walked in and rang the doorbell.
To my shock, it was the man I had been trying to forget who opened the door. The man who took my virginity. The man with blue eyes, a sharp nose, and tempting lips. I saw a faint smile form on his lips.
"Wh—" He didn’t finish what he was about to say because someone spoke behind him.
"Oh Elle, you're here!" Kai said, peeking from behind the man. He approached and took the cupcakes.
"Elle, meet my brother," Kai said, introducing him.
"H-hi... Kuya," I stammered, embarrassed.
"Hi Elle, I’m Dveiroin," he said shortly, extending his hand. I shook it but pulled away quickly—it felt like electricity ran through me when I touched him. My heart raced uncontrollably.
I looked away quickly to avoid his gaze that seemed to pierce right through me.
I just let Kai drag me into the living room. But before we got far, I looked back at the door—and our eyes met again. It felt like he was reading my very soul. I couldn't calm my racing heart.
The world really is small, huh?
The man I had a one-night stand with—the man who had been haunting my thoughts—was none other than Kai's older brother, Dveiroin, the one he had always wanted to introduce to me.
Even though I felt the undeniable pull between us, I tried hard not to think too much of it. I didn’t even know if he felt the same way. I didn’t want to hope. I didn’t want to get hurt again. I didn’t want to experience the pain of abandonment ever again.
