Chapter 8

Kai and I returned to what we were doing. After a few hours, Manang Pesing called us down for lunch. As we headed to the dining area, my eyes immediately searched for Kai's brother but I didn’t find him. "Manang, where’s Kuya?" Kai asked when he noticed his brother wasn't there. "Ahh... Ma'am, he left earlier. He had something important to attend to at their company," Manang replied before excusing herself. I felt a pang of sadness upon hearing that. Only one thought lingered in my mind at that moment — I hated the feelings growing inside me for Kai's brother, the same man I had a one-night stand with. After eating, Kai suggested we go out for a bit and asked if I could sleep over at their house tonight. We spent some time at the park before heading to my house to ask permission from my aunt. When we arrived, we found her watching TV in the living room. We approached her and gave our respects. "Tita, is it okay if I sleep over at Kai’s house tonight?" I asked as we sat on the couch. "Oh, of course... Actually, it's perfect timing. I’m thinking of going on a trip with my friends. We'll be away for a week, and I don't want to leave you alone here," she explained, looking at me with concern. "It's dangerous to stay alone these days." "What’s the trip for, Tita?" I asked. "My friends invited me to go on an outing. You know how rare it is for them to plan something like this," she answered, standing up to pack her things. Kai and I stayed behind in the living room. While we were talking, Tita came down with her bag, all dressed up. "Elle, take care of the house while I'm gone. I'll be back next week. In the meantime, stay at Kai’s house so I won’t worry about you. Make sure to lock up everything properly," she reminded me. I nodded in response. "Take care, Tita," I said with a smile. She nodded back and left, her friends waiting outside. "Looks like you’ll be staying at our house for a whole week!" Kai said excitedly as we packed my things. "Yeah... I feel a bit embarrassed staying with your parents and brother," I admitted while packing. I couldn’t help but smile at the thought of his brother. "Don't worry, my parents will be happy. They really like you. Besides, Kuya's rarely home, so don’t feel awkward," Kai reassured me. I just smiled and nodded. After packing, I made sure the doors, windows, and gate were securely locked before we left. It was already 5:45 PM when I glanced at the clock. "Movie marathon later!" Kai said excitedly as he drove. "Let’s sit together, okay?" he added with a smile. "Sure," I replied with a smile, gazing out the window. I couldn’t help but think about Kai's brother again. But I knew I had to suppress whatever feelings were brewing. I didn’t want to experience the same pain my ex-boyfriend caused me. My thoughts were interrupted when the car came to a stop — we had arrived at Kai's house. We got out, and I grabbed my bag.
