Chapter Twenty-six I wanted to slide my head beneath the water in the bathtub. No, I wanted to drive to Marly’s house and seduce her. Perhaps it would be better to take a job at another company. Or go home to Ted and Jennifer. Make biscuits. Buy a dog. Wake up like Sleeping Beauty. Unfortunately, it was time for work. It was chilly beyond the cozy warmth of my bed covers. Procrastination is not my long suit when there is work to be done, but I waited, thought, dozed a moment, and berated myself for being a coward. When I had pushed my tardiness to its limit, I got out of bed and put on a pair of slacks. Too wrinkled. I put on a cotton skirt and sweater set. Not warm enough. I threw on a pair of old but serviceable jeans from my closet, found a clean turtleneck and pullover, walking shoes
