The fight didn’t last long enough for Amara to understand it. One second the man was smiling at her like he already knew how this ended, the next Damian was a blur of motion, and Elena beside him, both of them cutting through the six attackers with a speed that made her stomach turn. Amara didn’t see the moment it ended. She saw the aftermath. Two of the six on the ground, not moving. The others gone, melted back into the treeline the way they’d come, leaving nothing behind but silence and Damian’s ragged breathing.
