Shayla’s forehead was damp from the efforts of labor, she waited expectantly to hear the midwife tell them they had a healthy baby boy. She waited to hear the baby's first cries, and started to worry, when she didn’t hear anything. Suddenly, a small cry erupted and Shayla sighed in relief.
“You have a beautiful baby girl,” the midwife announced.
“Really, I was so sure it would be a boy,” Shayla said, surprised. The midwife wrapped up the tiny infant and passed the baby to Shayla.
The midwife completed the rest of her duties, checking on Shayla and making sure she had the information she needed as a new mother. When the midwife decided that everything was good, she got ready to leave.
