I couldn’t understand how I had become their hope. Why is Kate’s mom worshiping me right now?

Emery couldn't understand how she would feel now. She feels shock and astonishment now because of Kate’s mother reaction. Kate felt ashamed of what her mother had done. She forced her mom to stand up and pulled her upright.

“Mom, what do you think you’re doing in front of my new friend? You’re embarrassing me,” Kate said.

She removed Kate's hold on her. She held Emery's hand. Kate's mother seemed to be crying as she looked at her. She was even more surprised by her reaction. "I will be kind to you as well as my daughter, Kate. I hope you won’t leave us alone,” said by Kate's mother.

“Mom! What are you saying to Emery now? It's embarrassing,” Kate said again. She was trying to pull her mom away from her friend.

"Be kind to her and take good care of her, okay?” she told her daughter. "Ma'am, I don't understand what you're saying right now. Why did you react like that when you just saw me in person?” Emery asked curiously.

“I'm just happy to see you in person. I never thought I would be the first to see you. I am honored,” the mother replied again. Kate immediately intervened between the two of them. She removed her mother's grip on Emery's hand.

“I’m sorry for my Mom’s reaction, Emery. Mom, let’s go home now,” Kate said to her mother. “I'm going home, Emery. Let's just meet again tomorrow,” Kate said to her friend.

Emery just nodded at her and waved. "Be careful when you go home. See you tomorrow again," she said goodbye to her friend.

Kate had already pulled her mother who was still staring at Emery even though they are walking away. Emery's body trembled when she saw how Kate's mother looked at her. She felt something strange in the eyes of her friend's mother.

Why would she act like that in front of me? I could not understand why her words and actions were so strange to me.

“Emery! You're just there. Come inside and eat,” Sister Anasha called to her.

"Yes, I'm going!" Emery shouted. She ran to the church and saw that Sister Anasha was waiting for her there.

“Where is your friend Kate? Is she home already?” the nun asked her. Emery nodded, “Yes. She went home with her mother,” Emery replied.

“Don't worry because you will be with Kate again tomorrow. But not every day you can be with him, do you understand? There are also days when Kate can't come here.”

“It's okay, Sister Anasha. The important thing is that, I somehow have fun here and have a good friend. But it's surprising that Kate's mother reacted differently when she saw me the first time,” Emery told the nun. She turned to her. "How strange is the reaction?"

“She suddenly knelt in front of me as if she were worshiping me. Then she said that I would be their hope. I can't understand why she suddenly came to me like that. She still seemed to be crying and she said she was happy that she saw me in person. She was even honored for seeing me,” Emery replied.

Sister Anasha frowned slightly when she heard Emery's story. She now wondered why Kate's mother had told her that.

Did she hear something we talked about with the Lord?

In Sister Anasha's mind, she was already wondering. She can't ask or talk to Kate's mother about Emery because it will only make her even more surprised. "Don't even think about what she showed you earlier. Maybe ahe was just happy because her daughter Kate already has a friend,” Sister Anasha replied.

Emery didn't even think about what had happened. They went to the dining room table and there they prayed the prayer for food. Somehow, Emery was able to keep up with them. Even though she was slow before she uttered each word, she somehow memorized it. The nuns were happy to be with her because Emery was a smart girl.

“It's good that you're almost following our prayers, Emery. We will be surprised that next time you will remember all the prayers,” Sister Chloe praised her. Emery was happy to hear that.

“You also teach me well so I learned it easily. I hope I can memorize everything so that it can be finished immediately,” Emery replied.

“You still have a lot of things to learn. Once you have memorized all the prayers, the next thing you need to learn is how to worship our Lord,” said by Sister Anasha.

"All right."

When they finished eating, they went straight to sleep. Sister Anasha led Emery to her room. Also because Emery was tired that day, she fell asleep quickly. A few hours passed and Emery woke up. It was midnight but she did not know the time. She was urinating so she left her room.

There was darkness in the hallway she was walking through. She couldn't see exactly where the bathroom was and she didn't realize that the door she had entered was different. She was about to go out the door again when she heard someone talking. When she heard her name, she stopped walking.

"How's Emery?" asked by an old man's voice.

“We take good care of her now and do not neglect her. Even now, she is memorizing our prayers little by little,” Sister Anasha replied. Emery was just quietly listening to their conversation. Especially and she even heard her name.

"We will have to wait a long time until that child grows up. She will give us hope,”said by the old man again. Emery heard that word again. They say she will be their hope. But she did not know how she became their hope.

“That girl is good and talented. She is definitely our luck when the right time comes,” added by Sister Anasha.

How did I get lucky for them? I was just an ordinary child. What’s so special about me and that’s just the way it is when they treat me? I can’t understand why they are like that to me and what they are talking about right now. Sister Anasha told me to just ignore what Kate's mother had told me earlier. But why are they talking like that now? Who is the man she is talking to?

Emery was now confused in her mind. She had many questions in her mind but she knew it was impossible to have an answer. At a young age, she seemed to be becoming so matured that she would think because of those with her in the church who were elders. What she was taught in that church was no longer a child's work.

"It looks like someone else already knows about that girl. What are we going to do?” Sister Anasha asked the old man again. Emery came closer to hear what they were talking about.

"Make them shut up for those who knows something about Emery.”

Emery backed away after hearing what the old man had said. She now wondered what the old man meant by what he said.

Shut up? How do they do that? That’s what I used to hear in the movie and it means that someone will be killed.

Emery felt scared because of what she thought and also because of what she heard from the old man. She seemed to tremble as she heard that old man’s voice. She was about to run out the door when she ran into something. So that thing made a sound. The old man and Sister Anasha looked at his way after hearing that sound coming from her position. Emery felt more scared, thinking that they might catch her for listening into their conversation.

"She's here."
