Chapter One

1194 Words
First day of school and it's my Sophomore year! I'm waiting patiently for the bathroom to become available, I'm so nervous but I know Jesus will be watching over me! I close my eyes and pray until finally my younger brother gets out of the bathroom. "Finally," I gush and run into the bathroom before he changes his mind. I honestly do not know why an eight year old spends an hour in the bathroom every morning! I quickly shower off while trying not to get my hair wet or it will frizz like it usually does. Once I'm out I sit in front of my desk and braid my very long golden blonde hair before pinning it to the top of my head while small tendrils of hair frame my face. I put on some lip gloss and a small bit of black eye liner before slipping into my peach mid thigh length sundress, I throw my white cardigan around me and leave my room. "Daisy are you almost done, we need to say a blessing before you leave for your first day!" My mom yells up the stairs as I head down. "I'm here I'm here," I smile down at my mom, she's forty-eight but looks twenty-five at most. She's got red hair and beautiful grey eyes that have always looked at me with nothing but love. "Oh you look so lovely today! Come quick so we can pray before your dad has to leave." She pulls me gently into the kitchen where my brother, Josh, and my dad sits at the dining table. "Morning dad, Josh," I say and sit down. "Let us thank Jesus for waking us up today and letting us serve him. Keep Daisy and Josh safe while they are at school and on their way home. Amen." My dad says and then gets up from the table and leaves. He's very strict but I know he loves us. "You need to be going to, Daisy. I'm sure Lisa will be ecstatic to see you again since we've been away all summer at Christ Camp. Go on I'll walk Josh to school today!" She smiles at me and I rush out of the door. My stomach is full of butterflies as I walk the few blocks to my school. Why am I so nervous, Jesus? I've gone to this school my whole life and I know everyone here plus we hardly ever get a new student. I shouldn't be worried and I pray the whole way until finally I spot my freckle faced best friend who'll squeals and runs over to me. "Daisy!" She says as her arms fly around me. I hug her back tightly and when she pulls back she looks at me wide eyed. "What's wrong?" I ask, oh God did I forget to wear shoes or something! "You don't even look like my Daisy! You have boobs and curves!" She scrunches up her face but smiles. "So?" I fidget and smile back. "I'm jealous." She laughs and pulls us into the building. "No envy is a sin, Lisa," I scold but I laugh with her. We head to our first class of the day and I'm so nervous still, especially since some of the guys here are looking at me strangely. But my worries are taken away when the Lord answers my prayers, I spot my boyfriend Kevin with his friends. I walk up to him leaving Lisa with her boyfriend she spotted. "Hey," I say shyly picking at the hem of my waist length cardigan. Kevin is around my height, he has brown hair and brown flat eyes. He's wearing a brown knit sweater and khakis dress pants along with brown shoes. "Daisy, I was just talking about you." He smiled sweetly at me. One of his friends whistled as he looked me over. "Harold stop staring." Kevin said and laughed. "How was your summer? I know Catholic Church camps are different from Christian ones." I ask as we walk to our homeroom class. "It was wonderful, we had Mass every single day and the Priest has just become Bishop of Mississippi!" He gushed to me. I was very happy for him and I smiled as we got to our homeroom. It was religions as we had both picked. Sitting behind the teachers desk almost made me drop my books on the floor. He had his feet propped up on the desk, his hair was pitch black and kind of shoulder length, every visible inch of his body apart from his head was covered in tattoos. His face was something other entirely, he had the face of a model. His chiseled jaw line was still boyish almost but his full lips that had a lip ring pierced on each side is what drew my attention, sure I had seen people like him before but never as my teacher. I sat down in the back like I always do so I can pay attention without having to listen to everyone's conversations. Kevin sat next some red headed girl that goes to the same Catholic Church as him, which I'm sure his parents love her. They aren't fond of me because I'm Christian. Anyways. I got out my thick journal that I had bought specifically for my religions class and fiddled with my pen waiting for the weird new teacher to begin his lesson. The bell rung and everyone quieted down quickly waiting for him to speak. My eyes kept traveling over him and something about him screamed bad influence, which made me feel stupid because obviously he's a teacher and they aren't normally bad influences! He stood up and finally looked up from whatever book he had in his hands. His eyes instantly met mine and I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, they were a shocking green colour almost unnaturally so. I was locked in his stare as he spoke, I didn't hear a word of what he was saying. All I saw was those eyes and how every few seconds those eyes would meet mine. Quit looking at him like that! I yelled at myself mentally. I finally managed to break away from whatever trance I was in and silently prayed he didn't think I was mentally challenged or something. "This is religions, we will study the major four religions of this time period then we will study past ones and smaller, lesser known ones." His voice was like silk, he had some accent I cannot place, German I think. "You never know this class might change your faith." My eyes met his again as he spoke the last sentence, it sent my heart racing. Why am I getting all nervous! He's a teacher! I should feel comfortable around him. "I will ask everyone to make sure they take notes since there is no book for this class only slides I will project." He walked perched himself on his desk and I tried to make it seem like I was paying attention without actually looking at him. "By the way I am Mr. Riley." He says and my eyes once again meet his.
