I stayed outside my parents' gate the whole day until evening fell. I couldn't bring myself to remember how l had left home. I left rudely and vowed never to come back. I gave up my position as the heiress of our pack to my cousin, since l was the only child. My Alpha father, in his anger, disowned me and refused to recognize me as his daughter. He even declared my cousin, Amelia, as the heiress to the whole world. Now looking back, l regret losing everything because of that scumbag. I didn't know if my parents would welcome me, let alone let me stay, but l had to be prepared for any possible outcome.
I finally gathered all the strength and courage l had and honked multiple times. A guard came out and walked toward the window.
"Hello, how can l help you?" l lowered the glass and the moment he saw me, his eyes widened in surprise.
"M—Madam.... it's you."
"Are my parents and my cousin inside?"
"The Alpha and his Luna are inside, but young Madam isn't here."
"Has she gone somewhere?"
"Young madam doesn't stay here. Let me open the gate for you."
"Okay."
I watched the omega rush to open the gate. I wasn't surprised that Amelia didn't stay with my parents. She only got to know us when she was older, and sometimes you could tell that she wasn't very comfortable or open. The gate opened and l drove in.
Nothing had changed. It was just as I had left it a year ago. I passed the houses of our pack members before reaching my parents' home. Blood guards stood at their posts. The only difference was that there were a few more of them now.
Then l saw it, my home.
My heart began to race, my hands turning cold and damp. I walked up to the door, my hands wouldn't move, l couldn't bring myself to ring the bell.
I took a deep breath..... and finally pressed it.
A few seconds later, a maid opened the door.
"Y.... Y.....Young madam!"
She smiled through tears. I never expected her to become so emotional just by seeing me. My own eyes stung, tears threatening to fall. I blinked rapidly, trying to hold them back. I looked up, hoping to stop them. But the moment l saw my mother, they spilled over like a violent river.
"Nanny Lucy, who is it? Is it Amelia?"
She called out as she approached. She didn't see me at first. But when she reached the door and looked up-
She froze.
The smile on her face disappeared, replaced with trembling lips and tear-filled eyes.
I ran into her arms.
She hugged me tightly, and l held onto her just as hard. It was the warmest embrace I had felt in years. I wished the time would stop in that moment.
When we stepped inside the house, my father was in his rocking chair, watching hockey. He was shouting and laughing- his loud, familiar laugh echoing through the room. Everything felt the same... just like before l left.
" Augustus, your daughter is here. " She said to him, her voice wavering.
" Which daughter? " The question tightened something in my chest. My tears fell uncontrollably. It was clear- he never truly regarded me as his daughter anymore.
" How many daughters do you have? Jade is here. "
My father froze.
His chair slowed to stop.
He set the remote aside and stood up. Then he walked towards me and pulled me into a tight embrace. He kissed my forehead, wiped my tears and gently stroked my hair.
" Hey, sweetheart," His voice was warm-soft. Just like when l was a child when he tried to comfort me.
Something in me broke.
The air felt heavy. I could have done better. Maybe things wouldn't have turned out like this. So many thoughts flooded my mind.
If only there were a time machine would I have turned back the time. Unfortunately, I couldn't do anything.
I had already made my mistakes.
The only way to correct it was by doing the right thing from then moving forward.
I couldn't disappoint my parents anymore.
