Chapter 5
Where am I going? Well I'm going anywhere far from this hell of a place. I can't believe George is the boss! Why do I have to keep seeing his face, now all memories of yesterday won't stop screaming in my head.
"You don't have to leave so soon, you have an interview to attend." There was a hint of excitement in his voice, probably he was happy to see me again so he can end my life miserably.
"I don't want the interview any more. I'd rather beg on the street than to work for you." I said with so much audacity I had no idea where it came from.
"Well, you should have considered that before you walked in here." His lips played an offensive smirk. "Please, have a seat."
He gestured for me to seat down. I took my time analysing him, the smile on his face won't fade out. Slowly, I made my way to sit on the black leather chair opposite his desk.
"Well," he started. "According to you files, you seem to be a brilliant student back in college. I'll admit, I really do love your achievements so far. Welcome to my company." He smiled, mischievously.
I was beginning to feel uncomfortable with the way he keeps smiling at me. I don't know what those smile means, but I'll say, it isn't a good smile.
"You don't look like you're interested in this job." He said, leaning against the chair.
"I already told you, I'm not interested in this job anymore." I said as a matter of fact.
"Well, it's not like you have a choice. After all, you're hired." I glared at him in total confusion, speechless. He's joking, isn't he? He's trying to get to me at all cost, right? But I'll show him I ain't the weak girl he thinks I am. "You're hired as my secretary, and I'll make your payment bigger than my manager as a token of our previous friendship. What do you say about it?"
I kept staring at him in disbelief, unable to accept the fact that this offer was actually coming from his heart.
"Isn't cheating part of the rules of a business?" I questioned.
"I make the rules, sweetheart, I chose whatever I want to do. I decide whoever I want to favor and those I don't. So, I've decided to favor you, are you gonna turn down my offer and keep walking about the street, searching for jobs that can't afford your monthly salary in one year?"
That's a huge offer, but I know, there's got to be a backstory to why he's trying to help me. They say; nothing comes for nothing, I doubt this is an effect of charity.
I nodded my head in approval. "I accept the job."
"Good." A sly smile played on his lips, "You're hired then. Once again, welcome to my company, Mrs Stars." He stretched his arm for a handshake. I returned the handshake, a very disappointing feeling tingled from my palm, up to my hand then all over my body.
I won't say I ain't happy, of course I am. I really need this money more than any thing, not like it's for myself, it's the only way to pay up my mother's bills.
—
Poor me had thought George's new simplicity towards me would end up getting him to understand what and who I am, little did I know he was only keeping his hostility behind a friendly facade.
I was inputting the company's report in the system, trying my best to see there wasn't any mistake when the landmark rang. I picked it, answering the call. "I need you in my office." George said and I left all I was doing just to reach his office in time.
As soon as I got to his office, the door opened. Mrs Mills, the manger was just leaving his office. I had sweats on my head due to how urgent I had ran. I wiped my forehead with the back of my palm, trying to calm my heavy breath down.
I noticed how seriously he was looking at me, like he was waiting for me to be done with my drama before he starts talking. "It's a pity you're a wolf but have to live like a normal human. I can't believe you're sweating this much at such time of the morning."
This is the third time in two days he's talking to me about not being able to control my wolf. No one would ever want such a thing, it's not my fault either for being a weak omega, but that's some thing he just can't understand.
The first two times he called me into his office was to mock me, now he's called me here to do the same thing? If this keeps going on, then I'll have no choice but to resign whether we both like it or not.
"Well, that's by the way. I called you to give you this. This is the company's record for yesterday, don't forget to add them all in the system."
"Yes, sir." I took the files from him, heading for the door. I was expecting he'd say some thing to me but thankfully, he didn't.
On reaching my office, there were noises coming from one end of the floor. I stood to see what the problem was, a group of men about three of them where disrupting the peace of the company. Securities were behind them, ordering them to leave the company, but these men paid deaf ears to him.
"Some one call the boss."
"I'm on it." A lady said, picking her landmark to call George.
The men came face to face with me, "Miss Stars, you're coming with us." My eyes bulged open as I glared at the men before me. "Now!"
"And why should I?" I demanded. "On who's orders?"
"It doesn't matter who's order it is, you're coming with us."
"She's going nowhere." There was an instant silence as soon as his voice sounded. Slowly, I turned my head to meet George's cold gaze staring back at me.
CHAPTER 6
Despite my hidden terror that was resulted from the violative men showing up at my work place, I couldn’t help but arched my brow at George statement. When someone said to call the boss, I was expecting him to show up waltz me out with the men for causing a form of commotion in his company but he never seized to surprise me.
And his next words only added to my list of surprises.
“Let them in and lead them directly to my office” he uttered nonchalantly to the security guards standing firm by the door, toasting his hands into his pocket and staring lazily at them. Without waiting for a reply, he proceeded to turn and navigate his way toward his office.
To say I was shocked would be an understatement. He was dead serious. He wanted them to be let into the building. Was he delusional or something? This is beyond ridiculous. I shook my head as if to wear off the shock I was currently tranced in and trailed after him. Ready to make him see the gravity of the foolishness he was about to commit.
“Are you out of your mind? You are literally inviting them into this building on your own accord? Do you even know the repercussion of what you are about to do?” I inquired, trying hard to suppress the chaos that was brewing within me at the same time trying to meet up with his hurried steps.
“Of course I know very well what I am on about and I hope you figure it out yourself cause I am not about to waste my time explaining anything to you” he murmured, that lazy stare still plastered on his face as he glide across the hallway.
He looked calm. Far too calm for someone who had just ordered a group f thugs to be brought into his office. And that single fact is really getting me riled up. For a moment I thought of holding onto his head and ramming it to the wall beside us but I immediately shake that thought off my head, seeing as it will cause me to loss my job faster than I can say “sorry”
“Listen I know you are the boss here and all. You have the right to do and undo around here but you have to know that there are limits to everything. This people are no good news and trust me when I say they will be the last set of people you will want to interfere with. It isn’t too late to tell the guards to wave them off and save yourself the stress of having to mingle with them” I tried to make him see a point but all I got that was close to a reaction was the slow blinking of eyes and then he stared away from me.
“The term “limit” does not apply to me” he mumbled under his breath, running his hand through his unruly hair.
The urge to knock sense into his head was really taking over my head and if not for the fact that I took in a very deep relaxing breath, I could have go on and perform the act. Of everything I had said, the only part he saw fit to pick up was the “limit” part.
I opened my mouth to argue another point but close it back again, repeated this process for the second time before settling down to pleading. Trying to force him to send them away will not make him do it only aid him to do otherwise even more so. The George I know is that annoying.
“Okay here is the thing, can you please tell the security to escort them outside? That will be the best decision you will make today trust me.” I tried to persuade.
My words caused him to stop on his track, turned and stare straight at me. I thought I had somehow managed to get my point into his thick skull and a soft smile started to play on my lips but I should have known better.
“I am doing whatever I desire to do and you as my employees will have to abide by my decisions or find yourself on the street in record time” he said slowly, pointing a finger at me with every word he spoke.
I snapped.
God what was I even thinking. Trying to get this egotistical man to back up from his decisions is just a waste of time I should have known better. He was doing this intentionally and maybe wanted to get me riled up. And riled up I got.
“You know what? I don’t care, you can do whatever you see fit but just so you should know you are taking responsibility for whatever they demand. I have warned you” I yelled out, trying to look as intimidating as I could but of course I was shorter.
I know my mom and her debt had something to do with this. I wonder how far she had gone this time around.
I didn’t even realise we have entered into his office until I turned back and nearly rammed into the door. I push open the door and nearly ram into the men about to walk into the office. I gave them a once over and realised they were the security and the men they were ordered to escort.
Startled, I turned back and rush to stand behind George, not at all finding the look they were giving me welcoming. The huge men walked right straight to where George stood with me behind him.
“What do you want” he asked, not the least intimidated by their giant form.
“Her” one of them pointed behind at me and I sinked deeper behind George’s broad shoulder. I felt him stiffened at their words.
“And why is that” his usual lazy voice turned icily emotionless. His hands turned into a fist by his side.
“Her mother used her as loan guarantees”
