Disruption
Our dancing lessons have taken a serious turn since we left Durban. We are to give an exhibition in the ballroom in two days’ time, on the evening after we leave Cape Town where we’ll be stopping for the one day. This will be to show the other passengers our progress and to give us a defined goal. Tonight we are having a dress rehearsal. I have spent the afternoon with the Captain in his cabin and have my dancing shoes with me so that I can go directly down to the rehearsal when it’s time. The Captain has arranged for Moira to look after Sukey as Clara will also be taking part in the rehearsal.
I wake up from our siesta before the Captain does and go into the bathroom to freshen up. I’m feeling nervous even though we won’t have any spectators. The Captain has said he will
