Captain’s Personal Log
What a dreadful day it’s been. Meredith and Sukey have been kidn*pped. We don’t know why or by whom. There’s been no ransom demand. Nothing. They’ve disappeared into the African hinterland.
The day started badly. I woke up feeling perplexed at my behavior towards Merry at the dance rehearsal yesterday afternoon. I don’t know what came over me. I love the girl to bits. Yes, it’s taken me time to realize it, but I have got there at last. So what happened? I don’t really know. And the worse thing is that it’s happened before. Every relationship I’ve ever had that lasted longer than a one-night stand has ended in grief.
